Accursed Lands is an LP-mud that has been up and running for about 10 years. It's stable and packed full of features and crammed full of good code and high-quality writing. Even better, the game expands with regularity.

Accursed Lands has an all-original theme. AL's low-fantasy medieval world, tinged with gothic horror, is a post-apocalyptic setting with a level of technology akin to northern Europe's dark ages. Two powerful races of mages, the rowans and the kiisici, have been at war with each other for ages. Though the photosynthetic rowans and the ground-dwelling kiisici do not compete for land or resources, they share a mutual antipathy towards one another. The origins of this hatred are practically lost to history but it has led to a series of ever-escalating wars that culminated in catastrophe. The two principle factions, their magically-created slave races, other races of the world, and even the very world itself was inextricably altered by the final magical clash of the last great war. Magic could no longer be trusted, great civilizations collapsed into ruin wracked with plague and disease, entire races were stricken by a collective insanity - it was the Breaking!

Accursed Lands is a roleplay mud, no hack-n-slashing wanted here. Although we have a great combat system and AL has the potential to be an exciting PK MUD, we have many players that never learn to fight and our focus is on RP, not PK. AL takes realism about as far as is practical, and it's a wondeful environment for RP.
