Blood of Dragons MUSH is based on George R. R. Martin's bestselling "A Song of Ice and Fire" epic fantasy series, and was founded by Elio M. GarcĂa, Jr. and Linda Antonsson, fans who've since gone on to become co-authors on an official worldbook with the author. It is the only MUSH with GRRM's approval, and has received his support while being constructed.
The fantastic setting is the Seven Kingdoms, which has a strong flavor of the Middle Ages circa the Hundred Years War and the Wars of the Roses. Unlike the books, the game is set approximately 140 years prior to the events of the novels, during the reign of King Daeron I Targaryen, the Young Dragon. Having just conquered Dorne, a realm that had remained defiant to the Targaryens for more than 150 years, the Young Dragon continues to try and pacify the unruly countryside. In King's Landing, the royal seat, his uncle Prince Viserys runs the realm and deals with the various forces converging now that the war is done -- sellsword companies looking for new contracts, lordlings looking for rewards, ladies seeking good marriage prospects, and more.
Features of Blood of Dragons MUSH include:
- Tightly focused roleplay aimed at emulating the political atmosphere prevalent in the books, due to the sole RP area being King's Landing. Systems are in the works to support this, such as an Influence system and a Rumors system.
- A massive database of nearly 1,900 characters in the Character Database (CDB), spread over dozens of noble families and their households. Unlike most roster systems, where characters are fully pre-generated with stats, skills, etc., the vast majority of characters in the CDB are completely blank except for their basic family relationships, age, and other such details. Players who apply for them have full control over their stats, skills, and backgrounds when taking them through chargen. Players can add to the CDB by proposing significant NPCs connected to them.
- An extensive Chronicle (http://www.westeros.org/BoD/Chronicle/) covering significant events, including a massive day-by-day description of the events of Daeron's invasion and conquest of Dorne.
- Unique code systems, such as +Groups, which takes table code to the next level: create a Group on the fly, anywhere, any time. Want to have some privacy when you sneak off with a co-conspirator to a murky corner of a hall to scheme and plot? Create 'Murky Corner' and you're good to go!
- Wikified helpfiles at http://www.westeros.org/BoD/Helpfiles/ that explain the character creation process in detail, and more.
The game is currently in beta while systems are being tested and finalized, but applications are being taken for players and are actively being sought at this point in time. More information about applying, including requirements, can be found at http://www.westeros.org/BoD/Applications/
