Overview

Calzonites are descendants of a horse like creature that was prevalent on Calzon IV millenia ago. Over time, their neck evolved into a humanoid torso with a pair of humanoid arms. They retained their horse head and horse body, becoming an Equine Centaur.

Physical Data

They average about nine feet in height. Their fur color varies widely, from white, to gray, to tan, beige, brown, copper, or black. They have a variety of sub-races among them, although they have no particular names for these groups. Some have large frames and muscular bodies, like a Clydesdale, and there are some who have thinner frames and are well built for speed and dexterity much like a Pasofino. All of them have a mane that starts between their ears and runs down to where their humanoid back meets their horse back. This is often either the same color as their body fur, or a lighter shade. Some have developed spotted patterns, some might have markings on their foreheads, and some may have markings on their lower chest area.

Typically they will wear special shoes over their hooves to help alleviate strain. Often they will wear belts around their forebody that is within reach of their hands to carry tools and such. The only part of their body they typically cover with clothing is the torso itself, and here they wear anything that would fit well on a human.

Culture and History

Calzonites had reached late 20th Century technology by the year 3001. Two main powers were prevalent on their world. The progressive and democratic Ixeon Confederation, and the oppressive and communist Therazin Alliance. Following several bloody wars over the years the two powers had reached a rocky truce that resulted in a decades long Cold War. Using this time of relative peace, the Ixeon Confederation put resources into more peaceful pasttimes, such as space travel. By 3001 they had achieved the ability to launch satellites and probes, as well as launch manned orbiters, following a successful program to land a Calzonite on their moon 30 years earlier.

By 3001, a space probe launched during the equivalent of Calzon's 60's era, intended to map their solar system's outer planets, was recovered nearly 40 years later by the Martian Republic. Translating the data within it they determined the location of Calzon IV and subsequently dispatched a vessel to find the planet. Upon doing so they made contact with an Ixeon astronaut, Commander Toromok. Following discussions with the Ixeon Confederation council, it was decided he would go with the Martians to learn about other worlds and eventually find Calzon IV's place in this larger society. The subsequent activities of Toromok led to Calzon IV becoming part of the Concordance based on the former Sanctuary colony vessel.

After a far off empire, the Maltarian Empire, made contact with the known worlds, Calzon IV swore fealty to the Maltarian Emperors and became a member world of the Empire. After the destruction of Ganymede while combatting Solar Consortium forces in 3003, little was heard from Calzon IV afterwards. It is presumed they chose to deal only with the Empire and keep to themselves following the violence precipitated by the xenophobic Consortium.

Community

Little is known about how the citizens of the Therazin Alliance live. What little information comes through the 'Titanium Wall' indicates they have little freedoms, extreme poverty, and vastly poor educations, all of which permit the government to retain their power.

The Ixeon Confederation is far more technologically advanced, and its citizens enjoy great freedoms and the ability to seek education.

Family Structure

Calzonites typically mate for life. Calzonite marriages are considered successful if children are produced, but this is more old thinking than modern dogma.

Education and Careers

Calzonites in the Confederation value their educational freedom, and many universities are available for their use. Given the economy of the region a wide variety of careers are available, and most Calzonites work in most of the careers you would find in a civilized world.

Sports/Games

Calzonites are very active in physical sports. A version of polo was devised centuries ago and is still played today. A type of soccer, football, and foot races are all common.

Language, Phrases, and Naming Conventions

The Calzonite language is Equesti, and if a person without translation equipment hears it, they would hear the sounds a typical horse would make, just a bit more structured.
