Chikhalacht

Quintessential Description
Before you stands a ten foot long, five foot high black spiderlike being. Its chitonous exterior is matte black. Two large black shiny eyes stare out from its head, directly above a pair of green jaws, and a second, smaller, pair of eyes are positioned just above and to the outside of the first. On either side of the being's head is a third set of tiny eyes, nearly indistinct from its black chitin. Partial green semicircles glow from within its four front-facing eyes. Symbols can occasionally be seen moving across these glowing areas. It is possessed of eight black legs, with many black and white bristles standing out from the joints.

Childhood and Family
Born to a brood of 97 B'hiri spiderlings, Chikhalacht used its natural guile and aggression to outlast the first and second waves of sibling infighting common to B'hiri clutches. It learned to hunt under its parents' tutelage but early on developed an intense curiousity about genetics in its female phase. In its male phase it enjoyed stalking its prey, learning their behaviours and eventually tracking them and consuming them.
To Chikhalacht, everything in life holds a mystery to be unravelled. Even amongst the simplest, most common creatures or phenomena, there is something to be learned. Chikhalacht is an eternal student, always seeking more knowledge. Even in its male phase, it thrills to stalk a new prey, or to discover something new about a common prey. It takes setbacks in stride and pursues relentlessly any goal it sets its many eyes upon.
Significant Event
Chikhalacht is both infuriated and intrigued by the events of the Hiver War and their effect on the B'hiri and on other sentients. It sees in its own species a weakness: the ability to be controlled psychically by a predatory race. In the interest of strengthening its species Chikhalacht has dedicated itself to genetic study in the hopes that it can find a way to counteract the psychic weaponry employed by the Hivers if they should ever return to menace the Ancient Expanse.
Values
Chikhalacht values strength, physical and mental, and cunning, above all. It is willing to work as hard as it can for goals it deems worthy, and is intolerant of laziness in any sentient.
Goal
Chikhalacht's primary goal is to determine a genetic answer to the problem of vulnerability to the Hivers' psychic power. It also seeks to help repopulate its planet after the Hiver War, and to help the B'hiri to be a strong, independent race.
It is, as noted above, always seeking knowledge, particularly in its fields of study, but in all areas of life. Though not the most diplomatic of sentients, it enjoys meeting new sentients and learning of their ways.
