Long Distance House Calls Pt 7

Summary: Investigating an anomaly

Cast: Kethren Leucohyle

Air Date: Feb 25, 2655

Setting: Command Center - Deck 1 - ISV Galactix

This massive room appears much like NASA's Mission Control in Houston. The fore wall is occupied by 4 gigantic display screens, with 8 smaller screens, 4 each either side of the 4 central screens. The side walls each have 2 more large display screens. Much of the bridge is taken up by 5 rows of consoles, arranged one behind the other from the front of the room. Each has enough seats to hold 50 technicians, all with a view of the front screens and swivel bases on the chairs allow viewing of the side screens. The consoles monitor and control all of Galactix' systems, ranging from environmental control to navigation. Behind these rows of consoles is a higher platform, accessible by a variety of stairwells up from the lower floor. This platform is enclosed with a large glass window, and is partitioned off into a variety of cubicles and other offices for the administration. One office is centrally located with a view of the entire floor for the commanding officer. On the aft wall, several exits lead from here into the main corridor.

Galactix' construct remains in the chair in which it was placed, still inactive. Sensing folks about, Galactix voice speaks from above. "Welcome back, my friends. It is good to see you again."

Leucohyle waves with enthusiasm as she beelines for where she was last cleaning, her cadre of 'bots scuttling along behind her in a cacophony of limbs. "Good Afternoon!" she pipes, cheerily. "How are we -doing- today?"

Kethren comes strolling in, today with his tiger. "Afternoon, all!"

"I am fully operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly." Galactix says. "I can sense that my construct's primary circuits are operational. I shall attempt to link with it." The construct's optics flash, and then a soft beep emanates from it as it brings itself online. The optics brighten and it straightens itself in the chair. The voice now comes from it's mouth. "Ah... yes. This indeed an improvement. My mobility is on the way to recovery."

Leucohyle claps her hands, uttering a piping little 'squee'. "You're -operational-! How delightful! I I had quite a er, -quest- to to find a matching powercell, and and we needed Doctor Aina to come and see to your more er. Physiological needs. I've no amount of confusion involving -bipedal- systems." She wiggles her fingers a bit. "Completely out of my field but well that's what cyberneticists are for, hmm?" The arachnobots scuttle around, some mapping, others just 'watching' Galactix's robovatar.

Kethren grins a little at Leu's antics "Aina does do her work very well, alright. But then, I wouldn't have let her cut my head open if she didn't."

"Indeed. This is truly a start, however. I must say I am looking forward to visiting your world once the repairs are complete." Galactix says. "My hull integrity is nearly to 100 percent and my weapons systems are slowing coming on line. Shields are registering at 95%."

"Oh -yes-, M-Mrs Xanya d-did a -splendid- workup on the coils, I must state," Leucohyle pipes, meandering over to a console and releasing some tiny Personal Care assistants to hoover the dust out of a panel. "Oh their world is -very- nice. If a bit er. -Green-. A a lot of flora and and fauna and etcetera."

Kethren snickers a little as he settles back for a seat against Nuala "Little more blue, really. Unusual grass, that."

"It sounds much like Delta Ultunimus III before the great war." Galactix says. "It was reduced to a wasteland after generations of war."

Leucohyle rattles off a cyan-yellow-magenta ratio in response to Kethren's commentary, and then pauses. "Well yes there is a higher percentage of blue on the chromatographic scale. I stand corrected." She cants her head to Galactix. "It's it's still terribly wild there. But thankfully they haven't got any wars because well as much as I like the indoors, I am well aware of of the necessity for a viable ecosystem, yes?" Another pause. "Th-that reminds me I I need to finish Miss-Gea's enhanced and portable Positronic projection unit and then well we should probably put some sort of... I don't know. Structure on on LCX103. So much to do!"

Kethren shakes his head "Can't as as I'd heard of that one, but I can't say I've made an exhaustive study of every cataloged planet either. Have more important priorities, really. Cities to build, structures to plan, things to run... there is indeed so much to do."

"Indeed, it was unknown even in my time. I didn't reach the Orion Arm until 2650." Galactix says. "Delta Ultunimus III is on the opposite side of the galaxy from the Sol system."

"Oh, -my-, that is a -considerable- distance," Leucohyle pipes, pausing in her cleaning to listen with a greater quantity of her attention. "Do you, er, do you have the inclination to perhaps return to the Orion Arm? It is, it is -possible- now, you know... I mean if you're interested. I wouldn't."

Kethren nods "Well, that'd definitely explain it. Space travel was virtually unheard of in my time, and I've had little interest in returning to that universe since rifting."

"Indeed, I suspect from what I have heard thus far, it may not even be the universe from which I hail." Galactix says. "I am glad, however, that I have found friends once again. My life was a lonely one for several hundred thousand years as I drifted through my galaxy. Indeed, I was on the verge of committing suicide before some kind people found me and took me into their care."

Leucohyle clasps her hands together, blinking several times. "Oh my -word-," she pipes, actually taking a few wobbly steps forward to offer the avatar a butterfly-light, barely-contact pat. "I er. I'm so -sorry-, that must have been -terrible-. But well obviously there's v-very little risk of that happening again. Barring the heat-death of the universe, anyways. My er, my lifespan is inestimable due to constant advances in medical-science. I'm I'm not going -anywhere-."

Kethren shudders a little from his tigery seat "That's definitely too long so spend alone." "Yes. It was purely an accident. During the great war I was a test bed for weapons development. I was kept a closely guarded secret but the enemy found us." Galactix says. "They boarded me, killed my crew. Then they tried to hack my core... but they made a fatal mistake. They triggered my Spindrive's activation sequence but the control code was corrupted due to the hack. It charged to near overload and engaged with no course. I traveled untold billions of miles before it experienced burnout. I was lost; I had no idea where I was. I conserved fuel as best I could, traveled from world to world but I never found anyone to replace my people." he says sadly. "Then I came to the Tomin Nebula, found the star there, and set course towards it. I was ready to die... but then as I said some kind people found me, and repaired me. They took me to Demaria, and I had many adventures with them. That is, until the Kretonians invaded."

Leucohyle siiiiiighs, hazel eyes wide behind her holospecs.

Kethren nods "Can't say I'm a big fan of the kretonians. But then, to the best of my recollection, the only ones I've encountered were trying to kill me at the time."

"Yes. The body you see here is not my original body. That one was destroyed by Kretonians, but my core survived. It was implanted into Sanctuary for its journey." Galactix says. "Once it returned to Normalspace in 3000, the Ultunimans, who I had visited, also by accident, detected our return and presented me with a new body. In the 349 years we traveled here, they had rebuilt their society and recovered from war. Thus began new adventures once I was liberated from Sanctuary, up until a rift, much like the ones you describe, opened and delivered Phyrrians from another universe. In that timeline, they had conquered all organic races, fitting them with cerebral modules that controlled them. I attempted to fight them, for their ships were an abomination. They were my brothers and sisters, of that universe, conquered by them and stripped of their cores. Unfortunately, I took the damage we have since repaired here. I remember no more beyond that."

During the story, Iota has scuttled along to behind Leucohyle, providing her a seat as she listens raptly. All of the other Limbics have stopped their puttering and are all facing Galactix as well, a multitude of expressionless polycarbonate lenses absorbing and recording from many angles. "Ultunimans," she says, brow furrowed in thought. "I I wonder if there's any multimedia or other reference materials in the present Orion Arm..."

Kethren nods "Well, I'm glad we were able to help... Can you imagine if old one-arm were the one to have found this vessel?"

"I can not know, but I can provide you all the information I have on them if you wish." Galactix says. "One arm? Who is that?"

Leucohyle shudders, openly, like someone has just dropped some unholy creepy-crawly down her back that's somehow managed to be made of something sticky, slimy, squishy, -and- part ice cube all at once. "Don't don't -talk- like that, Mister-Kethren, -honestly-." She shakes her head with enthusiasm at Galactix. "No it's it's really better off that you do not know and and it doesn't matter. The the organic in question is no longer functional and will NOT be attempting to make you part of his strange codependent collection." Sniff.

Kethren grins "Sorry, Leu. I for one am glad that he never felt the clone insurance was a good option."

"Indeed. Perhaps it is best." Galactix says. "I am truly beginning to feel like my old self once again."

Leucohyle peers at Kethren. "You know I think in some cases a breach of contract would be better for the multiverse," she pipes, with another prim little sniff. "And and well that likely seems cold but I've a very logical mind and quite-frankly I don't believe everyone deserves an infinite amount of chances at life, especially if if their life or lives are a complete detraction from their environment." She huffs a little bit. "And and he had the sheer unmitigated gall to say I was socially awkward."

Kethren smirks "Well, I wouldn't have felt too bad if said contract had been, shall we say, misplaced. The guy definitely had issues... I rather doubt any amount of lives would change that."

"Indeed it sounds like he was a difficult person to deal with." Galactix says. "Perhaps it is best that you found me instead of other lesser elements, of which he sounds like he was."

"Oh there are are -multiple- lesser elements in this universe and the next," Leucohyle pipes with another haughty little huff. "It is very much the best that we've found you. I I find Danu Chroi to be one of the more enlightened organizations presently existing in this universe and it is why I I do business with them. For one, they're not obsessed with politics, and and they rather don't like war, and they're not greedy, and as far as I know none of them are absolutely barking mad. It happens a lot. It it may be the rifting process."

Kethren smiles "Thanks. Sadly though, even Danu has to deal with some amount of politics. We get to avoid most of it due to our rather limited interest in expanding. Mainly we try to be a place that people can call home."

"Indeed, I believe I shall be calling it that myself." Galactix says.

"Well yes, obviously as any sort of power you do have to deal with politics, but but none of you seem to -like- it. Which I find refreshing. Because I I really don't like it at all. It involves a great deal of misusage of communication, and many many instances of falsified or omitted data. It's it's -very- untidy," Leucohyle replies, and the other bots start to scuttle around again, returning to cleaning or patrolling. "I live on -Comorro-, not on er any planet but that's all right for me. But I have visited Danu Chroi properties and I have found them all to be more than acceptable. If quaint."

Kethren smiles warmly "Well, if you wish to submit a formal application for membership let me know, and I'll put it before the council. And given that the only members who ever turn up to meetings have already been here, I don't forsee much of a problem."

"Indeed, I believe I shall do so." Galactix says. "I have no doubt I will need to establish with folks to survive in this universe."

Leucohyle claps her hands. "Oh that's splendid," she perks. "I will have to make it a a point to come visit er, more often. When I travel. Which is not terribly often, but well I I can add more appointments to the calendar and well of course you'll be welcome to visit LCX103. When we've proper facilities. Which is in the queue as soon as you're well and er I've finished Miss-Gea's project... I I really need to have Wu ensure that I don't take on any more commissions until I've finished these.."

Kethren snickers at Leu "And Aina thinks /I/ work too much. Although she does have a point sometimes."

"I will make it a point to visit." Galactix says. "Now, I must rest. I am trying not to strain my circuits too much until I have had a chance to fully test them."
