Sivadian Councillor hospitalized

Posted By: Titan Article: MARCH02-1 Reported To: SNN Reported On: Sivad Reported At: Sun Mar 03 20:07:40 3002

In yet another episode of the continual stream of illnesses, disappearances, and tragedies surrounding the present Sivadian government, Councillor Cierra Federova of Noremac East Riding was reportedly hospitalized a few days ago for undisclosed reasons. Rumors suggest that Councillor Federova, who was ousted from her cabinet position by First Councillor Truffaut after several clashes, may be suffering a breakdown after the death of long-time friend and former SHIELD Chief Sid Sianez coupled with revelations of her kidnapping, torture, and psionic interrogation by the Martian Legions. This follows closely on the heels of the recent apparent kidnapping of Councillor Eliza Curwen, who represents Aitocs Centre Riding and was serving as Secretary of Health and Biotechnology. Some observers have noted with interest Councillor Federova's choice of the privately-run Sapporo Memorial Hospital, which is staffed primarily by Earth refugees and boasts a high-security wing to protect the privacy of high-profile patients.A few observers have gone so far as to suggest the entire story is a hoax, pointing to reported continuation of the strong security presence around Miss Federova's apartment by private bodyguards. Most analysts discount this idea, and a Sapporo Memorial Hospital spokeswoman confirmed Councillor Federova's admittance, while refusing to provide any details on the Councillor's condition. From the seedier side of the reporting business, Enaj tabloids have reported in recent months that Councillor Federova is maintaining a live-in boyfriend of Earth origins. Some more reputable sources have confirmed an apparent romance, while being quick to distance themselves from the wilder reports. The underground magazine "Impending Doom", which has been reporting the imminent destruction of Sivad since the days of Montevedo, is perhaps the farthest fringe of these, proclaiming that the destruction of Earth never happened and that all Earth refugees and most members of the Sivadian government and media are Earth-produced Specialists poised to take over the planet.

Solon Solilopaxillthrixian released the following statement from its office in Shalyaris, Centauri:"We are willing to open an installations office as the Ubercast requested, in exchange for the installation of an OtherSpace Ring in the Alpha Centauri system. Additionally, we are willing to waive the normal 90 000 Carat installation fee for every single member of the Castori race in exchange for the necessary information and schematics to produce vessels that are equipped with jump sails. Until then, the Castori are always welcome to visit Centauri to have the teleportation chip installed there."The Centaurans, which have relied heavily upon the now-defunct OtherSpace drive technology, have had difficulties in transporting cargo to the new Centauran colony of Callisto, located in the Sol System. Analysts speculate that the move to OtherSpace rings will permit the Centaurans to move cargo freely without being forced to use their energy-consumptive teleportation technology."

Chief Windchaser still missing.

Posted By: RedShield Article: MARCH02-14 Reported To: QRS Reported On: Quaquan Reported At: Tue Mar 05 17:11:46 3002

It has been confirmed that the shuttle bearing Chief Distant Star Windchaser is truly missing. A preliminary search of the shuttle's scheduled route has shown nothing. Crews are planned to go out in the future. But at this point, experts say it is unlikely for the shuttle to be found intact. Ambassador Stargazer Skyhawk Windchaser is known to still hold hope that the Chief, her husband, will be found. She told Restless Star that there will be no mourning rituals held for Chief Windchaser, stating that until the shuttle is found he cannot be pronounced dead. To mourn him while he may still live goes against her tribes traditions. Chief Windchaser had made his home with the Ambassador's tribe at Riverbend Village below the Atsehi Mesa. "We will follow my tribes traditions in this matter since he embraced my tribe as his." she said, looking well after a week long Blessingway for the missing chief. "We will go on with our lives and pray that he is found. Until he returns we must hold in our hearts that he still lives." The rulership of Quaquan now falls to the Tribal Council of Elders until a proper replacement may be found. Ambassador Stargazer will serve as the voice of the Council of Elders during this time.

Legion Makes Final Push

Posted By: Titan Article: MARCH02-15 Reported To: INN Reported On: Mars Reported At: Tue Mar 05 21:03:50 3002

Marine units attached to the battlegroup Resistance, today made the final push onto Nemesis. According to Legatus Manus, the Legion forces suffered only minimal casualties during the short, but fierce battle. During the final moments of the firefight, inside a warehouse on Nemesis, a team of specialists discovered what was labeled a 'torture chamber' from which they recovered the bodies of the two missing Timonae militia members, one of which was still alive, although her condition is listed as critical and it is not expected that she will live long, as several of her non-vital organs had been removed. Among the items recovered with the two Timonae, was a holovid showing the now captured Cardeaux and Morgan, the accused leaders of the Minersus group, performing what can only be desribed as vicious medical experiments. Legatus Manus was quoted as saying, "If anything, this only proves just how sick these people are. The death of the Timonae militia member will be added to the list of charges against the prisoners."

E!RN:Legion Run by Cows?

Posted By: Alf Article: MARCH02-19 Reported To: E!RN Reported On: Mars Reported At: Wed Mar 06 02:17:54 3002

Initial estimates show that, perhaps, as many as a hundred Legionaries were lost in the fighting. Regardless of estimates, that's ridiculous. It's laughable. If the Legion was confident enough to post that number imagine how many losses are 'acceptable' but go unpublished. How many men did the enemy have crammed aboard a fifty person ship? Probably not too many more than the three that were captured. With the assets the Legion has available, losses shouldn't have gone past a dozen to capture a single wolf class frigate with nonfunctioning OS drives. What -were- they doing? I'll break it down for you. My sources say the Legion began a clandestine investigation of the base using Timonae spies months ago. In fact, they, like the rest of the universe, knew about the operation since shortly after the Guardian Fleet disbanded with the destruction of Earth. The spies were captured, and to cover it up, the Timonese government made a false report about a distress signal and foolishly falling prey to it. Now, when push comes to shove, the Legion isn't afraid to do its own dirty work, so they went to save the day. Unfortunately, they left the bulk of their marines on Mars, so they were forced to use their ships' crews to board the pirate frigate. Since they boarded before they disabled the rest of the enemy fleet, Legion medical officers were manning the weapon arrays that provided covering fire against the single pinto class transport the Guardian Fleet used to hold off the Martian advance. Sending four hundred unarmed mechanics, pilots, and engineers into the frigate provided an opportunity for the rogues to destroy their own vessel. Fortunately, the cue outside the airlock prevented many needless deaths. Most of the assault team was waiting in their own ship's airlock for their turn to board. They were good natured about it, letting the three man crew of the frigate come by in the left lane. Once they realized their mistake, the three starving men were quickly neutralized and captured by a Talk spray wielding matron.A few days later, when the pinto had finally run out of fuel, the Legion decided it was safe to invade. They thought about calling in the marines, but none of them would leave their girlfriends back home. High command wasn't too worried. The stalwart noncombatants could handle the invasion. There were, after all, lives at risk. Lacking suitable landing craft, the Legion stuck most of their force into refrigerator units which they hoped could make landfall intact. Surprisingly, most of this force died. Undaunted, they crashed their flagship onto the planet. Burying most of the colony under its bulk, the survivors followed the trail of tarot cards to their Timonae compatriots. Luckily, the sultry fortune tellers deduced enough to save their own skin since the Martians didn't attempt to warn them, trusting in their psychic abilities. Now, they are all partying hearty on what's left of Nemesis's cultural center Foeville.(EDITOR'S NOTE: E!RN picked up and decided to publish this article after the original posting by INN was removed due to requests by the Martian Government)-David Sparks

OMG unveils new Sail-Freighter!

Posted By: Wik'ikik Article: MARCH02-28 Reported To: INN Reported On: Odari Reported At: Thu Mar 07 18:20:58 3002

This morning, Odarite Merchant's Guild officials in Ikikir unveiled the latest addition to their fleet, the Grktk class Medium Sail-Freighter. Billed as an innovation of design, this model employs three detachable exterior cargo pods atop a hexagonal cylinder shaft, and a small docking bay underneath. The Grktk model, meaning 'Efficiency' in the Odarites' native tongue, comes more than six weeks ahead of schedule, and will be used as a replacement for the Guild's Chandler class fleet. Analysts point to the loss of Hiver drives and millions of suddenly-impotent merchant crews being used for labor as the reason behind the early introduction. F'ikbikkir, chief designer of the new class, sees the loss of OS drives as the best thing that's happened to the Guild. "Not having to compensate for the complex OtherSpace Drive assemblies and the excessive structural-reinforcing framework has opened up an entirely new paradigm in ship design.", he said via paddmail this morning. "We are now free to focus on those things that really matter: speed of delivery, reduction of cargo loss, and increase of cargo capacity per ship. And the Grktk does all of these." When asked about whether the Guild plans to make this class available for general consumption, F'ikbikkir replied that the Guild was still weighing their options, and would make a decision in the coming months.

La Terre Continues

Posted By: Out Article: MARCH02-40 Reported To: Inn Reported On: La Terre Reported At: Fri Mar 08 15:17:18 3002

Some people just won't be stopped. They continue to survive, even after they died. Everyone and every living creature on La Terre was returned, to continue their lives. But what now? With the collapse of the Otherspace drives, La Terre is now cut off from the rest of the galaxy. It has no teleportal, no OS ring, only Galactix can travel between there and other planets. Those colonists who did not leave when they had the chance are stuck there, along with those who took their ships to La Terre and did not leave in time. Many left the planet after its return, not wishing to stay on the site. Aggravating the problem, many inanimate objects have disappeared. Money, technology, clothing, furnishings, food... most everything but structures and the clothes people wore at the time of their death was gone. Seeing that, many opportunistic visitors left. Those others who came to see their friends and family left with them- not many ships remained. I myself left only a few hours before the failure of the Otherspace drives, but that was more than enough to see the change in this planet. Stores are empty, cupboards bare, and the fields once thought of a supplementary nourishment are now vital. Under the leadership of Miss Elianor Freyssinet-Ritter, a government is slowly and painfully taking shape. She seems to be the temporary government, allowed with various amounts of enthusiasm by the populace. Most of the citizenry remaining are extremely loyal, to the planet, the governor, or both. "It'll take more than dying, being resurrected, and a total lack of equipment and funds to make me leave /my/ spot," says Arch Findwell (43), one of the original colonists. He farmed from the beginning, and now has expanded to include the space of a neighbor who left. "I am grateful to those who come and help, though. Especially the troops that are still around. Even armed just with sticks, nobody steals this food anymore. They work for it." It in unclear how the planet will manage with no economy, but events seem to continue progressing. The type of government has been chosen, a ruling cabinet with a senior member elected by said cabinet. No such people have been elected yet, however. Smaller then ever, La Terre only seems tougher. There are still those unfortunates who wished to leave but, for one reason or another, were not able to in time. Yet on the whole, the remaining citizens are fiercely proud and now hard working, many abandoning former high-paying jobs to turn to the now more important work in getting food. This is Elar Venden, reporting for INN.

Ubercast shocked by LT ring assertion

Once again, rumors abound that La Terre has lost its OtherSpace Ring.Once again, the Castori government expresses shock and dismay at such assertions."Our records continue to reflect - and our engineers confirm - that La Terre does, in fact, still have access to an OtherSpace Ring," said Ubercast Sedrikin this afternoon. "Anyone who suggests otherwise - particularly those who dwell on La Terre - should get offworld more often and take a peek around their immediate solar neighborhood."The OtherSpace Ring in the KR-117 system has remained active since before the destruction of La Terre, and the Ubercast suggested it might be possible that the reappearance of La Terre resulted in a shift in the location of the ring."The ring can be found at the following coordinates: -2301107, 4076, -120200," Sedrikin explained.

Expert: New Alhira owes Gleaming Star

Posted By: Brody Article: MARCH02-42 Reported To: INN Reported On: Demaria Reported At: Fri Mar 08 18:06:49 3002

Since its foundation in the year 3000, the Demarian city of New Alhira has drawn some of its population from underclassers "liberated" from the Sanctuary nobles who eventually settled in Gleaming Star.As a result, this caused multiple breaches of contracts - implied and otherwise - between those underclassers and the nobles who cared for them.So says Tightfist Digitminder, an assayer and accountant with the city of Gleaming Star."When an underclasser enters the service of a noble, it is with the understanding that the noble will provide room, board, and all required educational needs for that underclasser and their family, in exchange for the services of said underclasser and family," Digitminder explained. "The breach of such a contract without proper severance and compensation could easily be a matter of civil litigation."At the very least, Digitminder said, liberated underclassers should repay their former noble masters for the expenses involved in their past survival.

News Service HackedIn the past twenty-four hours, INN officials have been looking into the matter of "Elar Venden", who claimed to work for INN in his erroneous report on La Terre. After some investigation, they discovered that Elar Venden is a college student at the University of Enaj who hacked into INN, placing his report with those to be broadcast."Of course we have security measures in place on our computer systems," said an INN spokesperson. "Mainly to keep out those who wish to broadcast the equivalent of graffiti. A quick glance normally suffices, just in case something did get through. But this report had to be studied to find the mistakes, and as Mr. Venden placed it in our computers, it never was seen by the editors until the Ubercast replied."Little else was said, but there seems to be little malice against the would-be reporter in question. New security systems have already been implemented."We won't be taken like this again," says the same spokesperson. "It was mostly harmless. If Elar Venden had not tried to portray himself at one of our reporters and had just sent the report to us normally, we would likely have printed it- after a correction or two. However, part of the new security measures are to prosecute anyone altering the contents of our computers without permission."

CSIS director losing confidence?

Posted By: OSI Article: MARCH02-54 Reported To: UIS Reported On: Concordance Reported At: Mon Mar 11 00:47:50 3002

Redtail Quicksilver, director of security for Concordance Station, continues to heal from wounds inflicted in his unsuccessful honor battle against Grayback Nimblefoot of Gleaming Star. But when these injuries have healed, he may find deeper wounds to the confidence of those who follow him - particularly the Demarian contingent. As this reporter attempted to interview the prisoner, WindSong, who has been accused of trying to assassinate a Maltarian dignitary, a Demarian guard explained that permission would have to be acquired from senior CSIS personnel, such as the director."I will not say his name," insisted the Demarian guard. "He dishonored himself. I cannot say the name of one so dishonored."When confronted with the contradiction inherent in asserting the dishonor of one's leader while simultaneously carrying out his mandates, the guard replied: "Perhaps... I am thinking of quitting. Did you think of that?"And so it may come to pass that those Demarians in CSIS service once loyal to Redtail Quicksilver could now turn their backs on him in the wake of his defeat in the Gleaming Star arena. However, the director may take some comfort from the support of his human employees. Said another guard: "I have complete confidence in Quicksilver."- Gorin Lukasik, Ungstir Information Service

Lunite Officer Executed

The Lunite Militia recently released the testimony of one Captain Daker Rymn, commanding officer of the LMS Midnight concerning recent events which have been kept under wraps until a full investigation was completed. Below is his verified statements. "Just recently a member of the Luna Militia was executed. First Lieutenant Jay Dyne was an engineer aboard the LMN's Flagship, the LMS Midnight. After using the ship's weapons without authorization, the engineer decided to make a run for it to avoid a court martial. He proceeded to take the ships shuttle and attempt to use a defunct OtherSpace Drive. That failed and the shuttle was left heavily damaged. Fighters from the 24th Tactical Squadron convinced him to stop and return to the LMS Midnight for trial. He was subsequently charged with Treason, Desertion, Stealing Luna Militia Equipment, and Unathorized use of deadly force. All of these crimes carry the penalty of death. The prisoner remained surly and it was by my judgement, and with the support of of my staff, that it was decided that the prisoner was to be executed. Luna Militia command quicky concurred with my belief and the penalty was worked out. First Lieutenant Jay Dyne was thrown out of the airlock without life support, his uniform stripped of all that showed him to be part of the Militia." E!RN: E!RN Slam UIS Inaccuracy

Posted By: Bahamut Article: MARCH02-57 Reported To: E!RN Reported On: Demaria Reported At: Mon Mar 11 10:19:15 3002

We're not sure who they (UIS) have been talking to, (REF: MARCH02-54) but last time we checked, only Gleaming Star Nobles should care about Redtail Quicksilver being beaten by Lord Grayback in the Altheor Honour arena. Why you ask? For the simple reason that the people of New Alhira care not about Noble honour, Gleaming Star tradition, or the repercussions that may arise from speaking the fallen Windracer's name because of the latter two. After all, when you don't live in Gleaming Star, you generally don't care about its rules and laws. Another point to note is that most of the Demarians that work aboard Concordance do not hail from Gleaming Star. They're mainly from New Alhira, commuting there via a short shuttle journey every day, then returning home to the liberal ideals and unilateral equality of the New Alhiran lifestyle - an equality that the ex-Noble Redtail Quicksilver now belongs to, one would imagine. And so, we here at E!RN can only conclude that - based on the UIS news report - that Redtail Quicksilver is once again the subject of media scandal in the name of a story. True that the few - if any - Gleaming Star nobles who work aboard Concordance (Of which E!RN has no evidence of, and which Gleaming Star ideology would most likely forbid) would walk away from the Director on principle of his dishonoured status, the large contingent of Demarian officers and employees who are New Alhiran - which is near to all of them E!RN can report - are still in support of the Director. In fact, with his exile from Gleaming Star, New Alhirans everywhere are expected to have welcomed the Director with welcome arms. Lack of support? Unlikely. This is obviously just another attempt to gain ratings by victimisation of an already potent media figure. The 'facts' are baseless, the evidence flawed, and the report inaccurate. Redtail Quicksilver's support on Concordance will only have dropped a tiny percentage as those few Nobles who worked there walk away, leaving the greater percentage of New Alhiran employees to fill the void, and continue support as before. They don't care about Gleaming Star dishonour - they've already got it for turning their tail to the Nobles and living a liberated life in New Alhira. E!RN can only suggest that UIS get it's facts together and make sure it's accurate in the future, rather than use the public media to slate someone with a shoddy report in the name of "News". <>- Loraan Koth -<>- Editor: E!RN -<> E!RN: "Working to Restore Power"

Kalson: Mars going overboard?

Posted By: Alf Article: MARCH02-58 Reported To: LUNA Reported On: Luna Reported At: Mon Mar 11 11:15:36 3002

President Kalson released a statement today, speaking about Mars' recent actions both with the press, in their declaring a Mr. David Sparks 'persona non grata', and also their sudden turn towards a more xenophobic political stance. The statement says, regarding Sparks, "We here on Luna have always thought Mars to be a world open to all kinds of expression." and notes that during the Ezekiel Williams debacle when the same Mr. Sparks "lambasted Luna" as being "multi-dimentional terrorists" he did not declare said reporter 'persona non grata'. Infact according to the press release President Kalson had a "wonderful laugh at the reporting of Mr. Sparks. Good satire is hard to come by these days."The President then moved from the issue of Mr. Sparks, and to the slightly more startling issue of Mars becoming a bastion of xenophobia. The President had this to say, "We think its wonderful that Mars is closing its borders, keeps my people from going there and making Luna look bad, and it'll definatly help Luna's economy." He also expressed a hope that, "those weapons be used to not only keep people out, but to keep the Martians in, as we see no need for Mars to become an exporter of bigoted ideas against our alien neghibors."LUNA, The Place To Be!

After several days of discussion on who actually would be able to build it, we did find the appropriate people to do this and the teleportal is being built as I speak. Only a few minor accidents have happened - the Lady has smiled upon us. The crew works hard with only four breaks of an hour each a day. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed when working on the teleportal, at least not in larger amounts. It is our hope that the Teleportal will be fully installed within a few days, with the Lady's Luck."A visit to the working place of the teleportal shows a busy crew of various engineers and workers. When speaking to one of the engineers, he explained that the major problem had been to get hold of all the parts needed before the OS Ring was installed, but that now they believed they had everything they needed. After that he left for a one hour break, returning 3 hours later to resume his work.

One man is dead after what locals are calling the latest "monster sighting on Sanjuni Beach early this Sunday afternoon.. Hector Miller, 78, apparently suffered a heart attack after seeing the creature while on a Sunday stroll with his wife Susan after attending mass at St. Thomas Cathedral. "It was big and ferocious with long, pointed teeth," said a distraught Mrs. Miller "It was all just too much for my poor Hector." Gerald McCrane and Mitsy Bremmer, a young couple enjoying a picnic lunch also witnessed the creature's appearance "Gerald told me it was a whale," Bremmer said, "So, I said to him Gerald Darling, when have you ever seen a whale with a neck as long as a giraffe" When asked if he could corroborate the claims of the other witnesses, he shook his head "It was much to far away and disappeared much too quickly to see anything clearly, least of all teeth. I'm fairly certain it was simply a run of the mill sea creature albeit rather large Some people just have overactive imaginations" Authorities would seem to concur with Mr. McCrane, "We urge people not to panic," a police official said. "A thorough examination of the area has turned up nothing out of the ordinary." He did admit, however, that was not the first time such a report had been made. The others were by sailors who reported seeing a large creature in the late night or early morning hours this is the first report of a daylight sighting. Martha cavelera SNN

CONCORDANCE STATION - Siithok, a Grimlahdi charged with felony assault for allegedly trying to shoot a Specialist with a stun rifle in the Quarter Beneath on Concordance Station, was framed as part of a conspiracy sparked by a Demarian noble. That's the assertion of Siithok's attorney, the renowned Jacob Gettleman."My client says he was approached by this Specialist with an offer for him to conduct the assassination of Moonshadow Stealthfoot of Gleaming Star," Gettleman said. "Siithok then warned Ms. Stealthfoot, who thanked him for the warning and indicated she would take steps to deal with the matter."Soon after, Gettleman said, Siithok was in the Quarter Beneath and got into a heated discussion with the Specialist. The attorney said Siithok saw a suspicious Demarian, armed with a stun rifle similar to his own, lurking in the area before the shooting.Moonshadow Stealthfoot had crossed paths with representatives of A New Dawn of Sivad and the Ungstir Militia, and was forced to give a discount on a ship she sold them, Gettleman said."She certainly has the motive and the means to exact revenge against them," he said, "and my client made a convenient patsy."Gettleman said he would be en route to Sivad next to meet with officials from A New Dawn to get their side of the story.

Antimone about teleportation nexus

Posted By: Port Cargo Hold <Athena> Article: MARCH02-72 Reported To: INN Reported On: Antimone Reported At: Thu Mar 14 11:04:42 3002

The news from the office of Solilopaxillthrixian that the Centaurans have removed Antimone from their teleportation Nexus, was met with a large amount of surprise and laughter."We find this very amusing." Outspeaker Zekia Malid stated. "About a month ago, a person suddenly appeared on the landing pad on Antimone, right in front of several Timonae Militia members. The militiamembers were startled and almost shot the poor man. He quickly disappeared again. Afterwards, this was explained as a sudden appearance of a ghost and never thought of again. Now we understand that it was instead someone who teleported to Antimone. To our knowledge, this is the only person who has teleported to Antimone, but of course we might have missed a few. The issue is, that the Centaurans *never asked if we wanted to be on the Nexus in the first place.* So, if they wish to remove us from it now that's fine with us. However, we will contact the Centauran government for discussions about what they owe us for hiring our planet to be on their nexus." Zekia Malid said, quite seriously. "There are still many ways to come to Antimone, either by ship, or soon - via the Teleportal from Luna. Anyone who uses the teleportal do so on their own risk, of course - anything else has never been claimed."

Antimone today invited anyone wanting to come to the funeral of the two dead Militia Members, killed on Nemesis by Cardeaux after having been kidnapped in Antimone space.Zekia Malid had this to say:"A special invitation goes to the Martian legionaries who brought their bodies to Antimone. They will be remembered for their efforts in finding our lost militia members, and they will be thought of with kindness in our hearts. The Planetary Council wishes to express their thankfulness to the Martian Legions and we do so officially. As I said - Martians are very much welcome to attend the funeral, or to visit our planet whenever they wish. And they don't have to leave DNA samples either - although a sample of nice liquor wouldn't be unwise of them to bring."A date for the funeral is yet not decided, but Zekia Malid believed it would be in about a week.

E!RN: Genius Breeding Gophers

Posted By: Alf Article: MARCH02-77 Reported To: E!RN Reported On: Sivad Reported At: Fri Mar 15 20:32:23 3002

Today on Davie Sparks, the syndicated news show, we interviewed Parhelion Picton. Mr. Picton, a native Sivadian, is the proprietor of A New Dawn. For those of you not in the know, A.N.D. is the future of biotech and specialist production. This is an important industry on Sivad as it provides outlets for its sex starved young male population. The Sivadian society is where it is today because of the work these specialists do on their backs. If you thought that massaging chaise chair was something, you obviously haven't met a first class specialist produced by A.N.D.After introductions and civilities were complete, the intrepid reporter began with a question that must be on the minds of all the audience. "Mr. Picton how is it that you became the successful business magnate that you are today?""Who might you be, sir? I'm afraid I don't have the slightest idea who you are," said the aforementioned business magnate.Well, to tell the truth, yours truly didn't quite believe his ears, so he blinked owlishly and repeated the question after reintroducing himself."How might you represent him and what not?""Well, Mr. Picton, I am he. I am David Sparks." At this point the question was repeated a third time. It received an answer, if an unexpected one."You arrogant little bugger. I am not capable and absolutely destroy proper business dealings!" shouted the red faced CEO. "If this is a business thing than I think it would be most appropriate if you were to properly brief me. Slightly befuddled, the writer asked, "I am, indeed, speaking to Mr. Picton, Parhelion Picton at that?""Lots of people would like to do that unfortunately. You see I have a lot of recordings of my business dealings. My work is done, the only thing left is to transmit the hologram," said the man presumed to be Mr. Picton."I thought you dealt with specialists," replied the reporter. "Do you mean recordings of your, uh, activities with them?""Sorry you pompous, traitorous Ungstirian bastard," was the hot reply. "If I am not satisfied that the business has been conducted properly it is him that will be wishing he never met me. I am not satisfied and have already cemented some alliances with officials from Luna " "Sir?" asked the reporter, completely lost by this point."Sorry for the disappointment, sir. I did my job, and I expect the rest of my payment!" screeched the obviously irate businessman."I didn't realize that I was going to pay you anything, sir, and you've hardly conducted a proper interview," was the quite calm and rational answer. At this point, it was clear that Mr. Picton was quite insane."Have already cemented some alliances with officials from Luna. Completely. If you think I am not willing to deal with the matter in kind than you are far from mistaken."Adrift now in a sea of incomprehensible babble, yours truly said, "I believe it would be in the best interest of both parties to conclude the interview.""Sorry, far too busy for anyone at the moment, and probably be staying too busy for quite some time," said the distracted sounding man."That's quite all right. I'll show myself out." Yours truly left as quickly as possible to the sound of an idiotic cackle and more gobbly gook, walking past several, what can only be termed, male and female 'pleasure specialists' who were leading a gopher on a leash to the man's private office. The gopher, wearing a frilly pink shirt, seemed better cared for and clothed than either specialist.

CONCORDANCE STATION - Sadie Coltham, 65, was just making her late-night caffeine run to Glimmercoat's late Friday when her poodle, Kipsy, got an upset stomach. So, she was a few minutes later than normal - and arrived just in time to see a Concordance Station Internal Security patrol unit crash through the doors of the popular coffee shop."If I had been on time," Mrs. Coltham said, "I don't think I'd be standing here talking to you right now. I am sure that woman would have killed me."The "woman" in question is a cadet, currently unidentified by CSIS but held in custody. Concordance Security officials stated that they would answer no questions about the incident unless those questions were submitted in writing and allowed to be considered and properly answered as expeditiously as they deemed necessary.Mrs. Coltham said she saw the female cadet hand over a complete arsenal of weapons, ranging from tukla fruit spray to pulse weaponry before the cadet was taken into custody."I didn't realize the CSIS armed their new personnel so heavily," Mrs. Coltham said, clutching her Keep Earth Pure collectible handbag to her chest. "I suppose I should feel safer, knowing they let crazy people carry guns and drive complex vehicles."According to Mrs. Coltham, the cadet called out to an unseen companion named "Walter" at some point during the incident, claiming that the two of them were after a criminal. No word on official charges against the cadet, the cadet's name, the cadet's age, or how long she's been with the force - CSIS personnel declined to provide the data.No one appeared to be seriously injured.- Gorin LukasikUngstir Information Service

Martian Deadline Passes Peacefully

Posted By: Seaborne Article: MARCH02-83 Reported To: INN Reported On: Mars Reported At: Sat Mar 16 04:29:46 3002

The First Consul's seven-day ultimatum to non-humans passed as Friday crossed into Saturday, remarkably without any real altercations between law enforcement and the new Martian 'refugees.' Last week, Armitage appeared on holovid outlining some new domestic policy for his citizens - forcing all non-humans to leave and placing Martian specialists into a hastily-constructed community near Olympus Mons were some of his actions."I've been treated all right," said Kerry McLaughlin, a Martian-Specialist that arrived at Camp Olympus on Tuesday. "Most of those who didn't leave don't have anywhere else to go. The government hasn't seized my property or hurt us... it's almost like they're still trying to figure out what to do with us. I really hope this is temporary. *Very* temporary."INN holovid crews in each of Mars's major cities saw long lines stretching from the spaceports, crowding the pedestrian malls. While there were no violent outbreaks, impatience ran rampant, fueled by the lack of jumpsail-equipped vehicles to take refugees to new homes elsewhere."We're all just waiting," said an Ungstiri who declined to have her name printed. "Six hours, ten hours. Whenever the next tin can gets here. You know."The First Consul's office announced that "the stragglers are few, and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis." More on this situation as it becomes available.-=-/ Ben Baan /-=-INN-Hesperia

Unrest in the Ungstiri Militia

Posted By: Ribas Salek Article: MARCH02-85 Reported To: UIS Reported On: Ungstir Reported At: Sat Mar 16 18:22:55 3002

Since the Nall invasion of Ungstir, and the Parallax's subsequent withdrawl from the planet, the proud Ungstiri people have had the monumental task of rebuilding both their economy and their military. While the economy slowly recovers, the Ungstiri Militia is running into trouble; trouble which some members of the militia blame on its newest commander, Generalissimo Ector Garryowen."He may have been born on the Rock, but he's no more an Ungstiri than that Timonae he made a Kapitan." said an Ungstiri Militia officer who wished to remain anonymous. According to this officer the Generalismo has recruited wealthy Timonae, and former SBI president, Kalsin "Vargas" Al'Maerklash and given him the rank of Kapitan. The officer added: "I have served in this militia since I was old enough to join up, only to be held down so this offwolder can be made a Kapitan."It seems that this officer is not alone in his beliefs. "Yeah, alot of us are mad. And shouldn't we be?" says another member of the Ungstiri Militia, who also wished to have her name withheld. "Before this Vargas guy shows up, we're scrounging for cash everywhere. All of a sudden, he's made a Kapitan and we've got all the cash we need. It's not hard to see that a deal was made. We don't even have enough trained pilots to fly all the new ships we got." She added: "Just look what happened to [Lejtenant] Mikol [Curlensky]. He had no place flying that fighter." Refering to the attack and capture of an Ungstiri Militia fighter earlier this month. When asked whether they planned to leave the militia, both Ungstiri stated only that they were going to continue to serve their people. "I hope the Citizen's Committee looks into this," one added, "because me and the boys aren't going to fight so this Timonae can have his jollies being a Kapitan and the Generalissmo can buy more ships... At least not for long."--Alexander Korenchkin, Ungstir Information Service

Castori Falls To Teleport Schizophrenia

Posted By: Sample Interrogator Description Article: MARCH02-86 Reported To: E!RN Reported On: Shinara Station Reported At: Sat Mar 16 20:55:17 3002

We have here a public announcement and medical advisory from noted teleport chip expert Jehane Lin of Shinara. "An hour or two ago a castori by the name of Mr. Tririlunt was found experiencing schizophrenic episodes at the flight level of Shinara. He proceeded to harrass and threaten all passersby proclaiming the landing bay area was his frigate." "Fortunately the security personnel were able to apprehend him without injury and he is now currently in our medical bay. During one of his lucid moments we discovered that Tririlunt was impanted with the teleport chip, and that he ignored the 5 minute delay in teleporting to a different world and was well on his way to breaking the number of worlds to visit daily safety limit when he was overcome by schizophrenia." Jehanelin frowns. "And here is where it gets sticky. In the past, a three day waiting period without teleporting was all that was necessary to cure the malady. Unfortunately medical scans have indicated some unusual brain wave activity so I fear that Tririlunt may now require special healing, psionic healing to be exact to recover." "What I am about to say may come across as insulting to the castori people but I must say this so please bear with me. Tririlunt manifested very violent tendencies, threatening me with his claws and pointing an imaginary pistol at me. This disturbingly reminded me of another schizophrenic who took his own life a few months back, Yulkamin. Other victims of teleport schizophrenia from other races like the g'ahnlo, and grimlahdi did not manifest violent tendencies. I fear that if quick steps to educate the castori teleport users do not occur we may be seeing many more violent episodes." "I would like to request to the castori goverment to perhaps send one of their own to psionically assist their sick comrade. I am not exaggerating and as proof of this I present you with a partial snapshot from Shinara Medbay." Tririlunt grins and chuckles lightly. "Is that so? Well then heal away!" Just then, he rolls his eyes back and snarls loudly. "YOUR DAY OF JUDGEMENT HAS COME AND I AM THE JUDGE! VERDICT: DEATH! PREPARE TO DIE, FOOL!!" He cackles loudly and begins rumbling violent in the restraints. "I heartily advise the castori to take what I have just sad quite seriously. Thank you. That is all."

(Enaj, Sivad) - Trade Secretary John Harrison is being loudly criticised by members of the opposition in the wake of news that he has started a new bank.Opposition leader Janet Papineau called the potential conflicts inherent in such a position "appalling." "Our Trade Secretary cannot be expected to have the best interests of Sivad in mind if he is also the owner of one of Sivad's banks," Papineau said. "This violates the principle of independence for cabinet ministers that has been enshrined in parliamentary tradition since the earliest days of Parliament in England."Social Democrats and Conservatives joined forces in a rare joint-attack on the government in the Council of Equals today, with both parties demanding Harrison's resignation. Opposition Party Names New Leader

Posted By: Aeolus Article: MARCH02-91 Reported To: SNN Reported On: Sivad Reported At: Sun Mar 17 21:04:27 3002

/Grand Enaj, Sivad/ Janet Papineau announced her resignation as leader of Sivad's Conservative Party today, a few hours after launcing an attack on Nationalist Trade Secretary John Harrison. Citing "personal reasons," Papineau made only a brief statement as to her intent to relinquish control of Sivad's second most powerful party, but to retain her seat on the Council of Equals.Less than an hour after this announcement, a second press conference was held in which it was announced that the members of the party had unanimously selected Fredrick Charles Chamberlain, Councillor for Retep Archipeligo, as the new leader of the Conservatives. "This is a new beginning for the Conservative party. My Right Honourable Colleage has taken this party very far, and I intend to take it farther." said Chamberlain.Insiders in the party have suggested that this change is possibly the result of a coup or backbencher revolt against Papineau resulting from her failure to effectively oppose First Councillor Paul Truffault. This has not been confirmed or denied as of this time. The ability of the ultra-conservative Chamberlain to achieve any sort of coalition with the Social Democrats, the other opposition party on Sivad, is considered extemely low. However, several insiders have said that a continued scandal could cause several of the more right-wing members of the Nationalist Party to defect, and lessen the fragile majority that the Nationalists hold in the small Council of Equals.

CONCORDANCE STATION - CSIS Spokesbeings today confirmed that the Cadet involved in the crashing of the patrol car into Glimmercoats had been fired from CSIS and was facing several charges. "While we will not yet be releasing her identity or the specifics of our investigation, CSIS confirms that we have dismissed the Cadet involved for violating several CSIS regulations." After several refusals to provide further information on the case, the spokesbeing did respond to a question regarding the recent rumor of CSIS personnel guarding the Director's private estate. "That rumor is completely and totally false and baseless. No CSIS personnel have been used at the Director's estate. The Director has always made himself available when at home for CSIS personnel to bring urgent matters to him after hours, and has a number of friends among the personnel who have visited him socially as well. It is our belief that these visits were simply misunderstood by well-meaning observers and no malicious intent in the rumors, and regret that such stories are not more thoroughly checked before they are run."

E!RN: Galactix Gunning for Syndicate Station?

E!RN today received a report from JUST - the Justiciary of Shinaran Territories - regarding the conduct of the sentient star-vessel 'Galactix' whilst on board Shinara Station, the rumoured soon to be hub of commercial traffic between the universe and the Shinaran Drift Syndicate. According to the official report, Galactix landed one of its dropships on the installation to 'pick up' the Castori Tririlunt, who is presently being held by Shinara Medical for posing a clear danger to others after his disturbing outburst on the flight deck recently, and JUST informs us that they intend to hold the Castori until a representative of the Castori government arrives to legally extradite him. According to senior sources within JUST, the vessel Galactix point-blank refused to comply with station traffic regulations regarding the movement of vessels on the flight deck, and when told that the dropship would be moved by force as not to endanger traffic arriving on-station, replied with threats of mass-murder, even going so far as to say "I will be forced to take action against this station. Your shields and hull are no match for my weaponry, and I have no compunctions about leaving this hangar and scattering your precious base to the four winds to protect myself." Marshall Marcus Harris - presently in temporary command of Shinara Station whilst Darktail Farstalker is on sabbatical - had this to say: "The thing is clearly deranged. It quite seriously was willing to kill five thousand humans and Demarians simply to avoid obeying traffic laws. I had to threaten to take it to pieces before it would move! I'm revoking its docking clearance - and that of any of its subsidiary craft - the second it leaves this station, and I'm not reinstating it until someone proves to me that they're not employing a genocidally sociopathic machine." Drift Commander Farstalker - who has been away from Shinara since the OS Drive failures - could not be reached at this time for comment or statement. -<>- Loraan Koth -<>- E!RN Shinaran Drift -<>-"E!RN: Working to restore power."

Gettleman praises CSIS

ENAJ, SIVAD - Attorney Jacob Gettleman tonight praised the decision by Concordance Station Internal Security to release his client, Siithok, from custody."The charges against my client were frivolous at best, and it is refreshing to see the level of intellect rising in the CSIS," Gettleman said.

E!RN: Shinara Spooked? Fox Fears Foreigners

Posted By: Bahamut Article: MARCH02-101 Reported To: E!RN Reported On: Shinara Station Reported At: Mon Mar 18 21:49:59 3002

It may seem to many to be nothing but rumour and urban myth, but to a few of those working aboard Shinara - and many who do not - one ship that has been present on the Station since it first opened up commercially to the universe has been the cause of much fear and speculation, with some even refusing to return to the Shinaran bottleneck of trade because of that ship. The ship in question? The IFF Black Fox, a vessel that's been a common sight on Shinara since anyone can remember, with questions about how it got there so far remaining very much unanswered. Yet despite the rumours and the speculation, one thing is fact: The IFF Black Fox is on Shinara, and as far as anyone knows, it's there to stay - and remain the cause of much fear, keeping a foreboding presence with its ominous image and its illustrious and dark past. An omen, some might say, of bad times to come. However, the lack of any death has lead many to believe that the IFF Black Fox and Shinara Station share an almost sentient bond - one finding the other home, and the other finding the first welcome. An odd symbiosis of space bound objects. Conversely, this 'balance of karma' as some have called it has not stopped the daunting reports of abnormal activity around the vessel. Some tell of the sound of feminine laughter resounding from within. Or the tales of dark cheers flowing amidst the noises of a casino backdrop. Or the rumours of cold jazz from saxophones haunting the hangars of the Station deep at night. Or the sightings of people occasionally being allowed access into the usually securely locked down vessel, then never being seen again. E!RN managed to catch up with one Carduus Reslienki, a well-respected artist, who we heard told Shinara's Commander Farstalker that he would not return so long as the Black Fox remained. "No good has come of it, no good will ever come of it. That ship reeks with the death of its past crews. It's one of those things just best left alone." He stated, quite sincerely, giving affirmation to the trepidation that many still hold. Nonetheless, we managed to also dig up a contrary opinion from Drift Commander Farstalker from our report archives, where he stated that "She (The Black Fox) is an enigma, I'll give her that, but she's welcome to stay. She's been just peachy and happy here on Shinara, even if everyone else thinks she's filled with evil and all kinds of nasty things that'll tear your tail off and hang you with it... or something like that." To some though, the history and name of the Black Fox means nothing, and the ship remains just that - a ship. As Marshall Harris so neatly put it: "What? I thought it belonged to the Skipper. Why are you asking /me/? Go away and stop bothering me." Whatever the cause or reason, the Black Fox is apparently here to stay as a permenant resident of the Station... and with it all the myth, legend, and lore that goes with it. -<>- Loraan Koth -<>- E!RN Shinaran Drift -<>- "E!RN: Working to restore power."

Guild hires Gettleman

ENAJ, SIVAD - Renowned attorney Jacob Gettleman today was hired as the official counsel for the Odarite Merchants Guild. His first order of business: A friendly warning to the Sivadian government."The Odarite Merchants Guild recently sent representatives to this planet with an offer to buy the troubled Space Builders Inc., when the government called for bidders," Gettleman said. "Demonstrating bad faith tactics, Trade Minister Harrison disregarded the bid, and it is the assertion of the Guild that he did so because these bidders were alien offworlders."Specifically, Gettleman said, Harrison claimed they had received a higher bid, but refused to say how much that bid was for so that the Guild might top it."We're already seeing Mars turning more isolationist," Gettleman said. "It's time for Sivad to be more open to offworld trade."He did not rule out a course of civil litigation over the matter.

A Sleepless Night for the Ungstiri Militia

Posted By: Russkaya Article: MARCH02-106 Reported To: UIS Reported On: Ungstir Reported At: Tue Mar 19 01:00:25 3002

RESILIENCE, UNGSTIR: The leadership of the Ungstiri Militia is in closed door sessions, a series of incidents having punctuated the Resilience corridors the past forty eight hours, as the deadline for the Militia's confirmation of allegience approaches. Their morale already shaken by staffing and serious questions concerning the procurement of the the Militia fleet, the rumoured disapperance of Generalissimo Garryowen has the rank in file looking for leadership. And they do not seem to be finding it in late night meetings."I was born here when the Kretonians walked these halls, grew up under Boromov, saw the Nall came, met the Ship of Legends, and to now come to this?" Polkovnik Liya Akimov of the Terenshoka District Garrison looked as grim as her soldiers did. The colonel wore the same rugged uniform of her troopers, her rank only betrayed by her shoulderboard insignia. One of them. "Somewhere someone seems to have forgotten what it means to be Ungstiri Seel'niy. It might surprise those deciding our fate that some of us have not."Has the upper command lost touch with the rest of the militia? As I stand and see them with their district officers, like Colonel Akimov, it appears to be true. Her troops stood by her side, and when asked for their opinion, most nodded to their colonel, confirming her words. One, a squad communications officer, did offer an additional point of view. "Stan' for a sheep collector? Nyet. Stan' for Ungstir? Hoopin' yea."--Dominik Koromov, Ungstir Information Service

Galactix Defends Actions

Posted By: Colchek Article: MARCH02-108 Reported To: INN Reported On: Val Shohob Reported At: Tue Mar 19 04:10:15 3002

Shortly after the E!RN story broke, our INN representative aboard Galactix carried out an interview with him in response to Marshall Harris' rather brutal comments. As it turns out, it seems Harris has downplayed his own threats to the ship:"I was not aware that this individual was Tririlunt. This is the first time his name has been mentioned. I had received a request from a Castori known as Rablinik for transporation for 2 Castori off the station. The second Castori's name was never mentioned, even by Harris during his condescending tirade. I had come to pick up two passengers as requested. Harris, as he fails to mention, began to harass me in a very confrontational emotional state. It was not until he threatened to diassemble my drop ship with arc welders and move it into the hangars did I make my statement of intent to defend myself and the lives of my crew aboard the dropship. Far be it for me to nitpick the definition of mass murder, but killing 15 innocents in the process of disassembling my drop ship qualifies. Therefore I believe my stance was fully justified, despite the mad ravings of Marshall Harris. However, in the interests of defusing the already explosive situation, I complied with his request. Marshall Harris is a threat to anyone who boards Shinara station, for he is a permanent resident, while I on the other hand am not, and have full intentions to leave when my passenger has boarded, or passengers, as Mr. Rablinik did not specify his second passenger and thus it could, or could not be, this Tririlunt. Had Mr. Harris made this specification in advance, I would have accepted his explanation without further question, for that incident is common knowledge."When asked if he had any comments on the latest offer from Doctor Haskins on Harris' bounty, he simply said, "No comment."For INN, this is Carl Rotherot.

Earlier this evening Legionary Enialis Amakir was involved in stopping a shipment of smuggled weapons into Hesperia, Mars. "I took notice to the men's stature and immediately approached them," said Enialis, "When I got close, I could see that they were very stressed. Also, I could see that one was carrying a very large bag. All three were wearing baggy overcoats." After Enialis informed the trio that they were going to be scanned, the man with the bag calmly put his load down on the ground and produced a pulse pistol from within his coat, firing a single shot at Enialis. The Legionary, fortunately, noticed the movent and hit the floor, the blast grassing his left shoulder. Enialis procceded to fire his already poised weapon, striking the man in the heart, killing him instantly. The two remaining suspects immediately went for their weapons, but were quickly subdued by approaching marines.

Sergeant dies and a Revolt is quelled

Lunar City, Luna - Last evening the Lunar City Hospital was the scene of a chaotic uprising, and the death of one Sergeant Ezekiel Williams. It seems that according to a video surveilance recording a doctor entered Sergeant Williams' room, and sedated him, before suffocating the marine with his own pillow. A mic that had been planted to monitor the room by a Lunite security agency picked up the unidentified doctor implying he had been hired by the Martians to kill Sergeant Williams, the doctor has not been apprehended to the best of our knowledge as he was able to escape in the ensuing firefight. The firefight was precipitated by an assault, by a heavily accented man, upon a LSS agent who was standing guard near the lift enterence. He and his female companion then took the lift off to another part of the Hospital, and eventually escaped custody. A Grimlahdi and a Timonae man then opened fire upon the hapless pair of LSS agents, and eventually escaped, despite taking a number of shots to their bodies. The pair later fled Luna in their ship. Adding to the chaos a squad of men in Luna Militia uniforms forced their way up to the third floor, and had to be subdued by a contingent of guards who were on the same floor as the group. Their target may have been the recently wounded Specialist Shaundra, formerly property of AND's CEO Parhelion Picton. Their motive to get to Ms. Shaundra is currently unknown, but it is known that a number of the group survived and has been taken into custody. We'll give you more info as the story unfolds.

Councillor Chamberlain, the leader of the opposition conservative party on Sivad, has demanded the resignation of Councillor Harrison from his post concerning his most recent action of opening Sivadia Trust, a bank that he would be the majority owner of. This would make for a direct conflict of interest in government matters. Councillor Chamberlain also noted that the First Councillor Paul Truffaut has been unable to maintain control over his cabinet. Specifically in this case of Councillor Harrison, and Falkona Devoras, who was court martialed after ordering the firing on the Lono. He calls for the immediate resignation of Councillor Harrison, and suggests that a vote of No Confidence may be needed.

/Enaj, Sivad/ - John Harrison, the recently resigned Trade Secretary, harshly demanded the resignation of First Councillor Paul Truffaut in a speech made today. Here is an excerpt:"Today, we face an evil that has lived on Sivad for sometime now. My fellow Sivadians, now, we live in a time of crises, a time of turmoil, a time of uprising. Where your life is being threatened and justice not being served. Where the powerful abuse their power and let the people of Sivad suffer. Where greed and ambition take one's conscience. I no longer can stand here and do nothing. Those evil beings must be condemned by the judicial system we have on Sivad. I, myself, question the ability of Paul Truffaut's leadership. One so weak, easily manipulated and is trying to usurp power within the government itself. Appearances can be deceiving. I demand the resignation of Paul Truffaut within a week or a vote of No Confidence is immediately needed. I, for one, would like to see prosperity and justice reign once again. In many places, I agree with Chamberlain's idea."

Foreign Affairs Secretary Amanda Ramlan, made the following response to the speech made by John Harrison and the impending threat of a Vote of No Confidence against the government "It is with great sadness that I learn that John Harrison, whom I have long considered a friend and colleague has stooped to join in this latest coward attack against Paul Truffaut. We have weathered many a storm during our tenure and we shall weather this. The fact the others seek to stop him at every turn only proves that he is a man of uncommon valor and honesty in this quagmire of politics, who is ready to put his trust in others. He has reached out to others in need, enacted tougher weapons laws to keep our people safe at the same time as protecting others' freedoms. He was the first in the galaxy to make a stand against the harmful effects of psi-blockers. I have nevr worked with a more honest man than Paul Truffaut, whose only error may be placing trust in others who do not share his strength of character. I would ask members of council to prove their strength in the coming days and pledge continued support to their current government"

SNN Reporter ReturnsDetails Eye's DeathThe missing SNN Psionic News reporter, Amaziah Tionus, has now returned to Sivad after his sudden absence. He has written the following in explanation:For the past few weeks, I have been unable to give my reports as usual. I wish it were otherwise, but I was forcibly detained. The announcement by Eye Balthazar on my "rehabilitation" was partly true, but quite misleading. He had hired mercenaries in order to kidnap me, disliking my reports and my person. I was kept in a cell for some days before he came in to speak with me. I had many questions, most of which went unanswered. For I now believe Eye Balthazar was quite insane; he /attacked/ me psionically, sheer madness for a Mystic. After battering me into unconsciousness, he invaded my mind and punished me. His last action was to heal me, and then he died from the strain, knowing it was the only way he could win.And now he is gone, highly revered by the Guild. I would strongly advise all and one to avoid Val Shohob. It is true that Balthazar is gone, but the disease still remains. Some may fanatically follow him, and who can say how many minds he restructured? Many odd things have taken place in the last few years, but this, to me, is the worst. In order to heal, the Guild has to change. The Voice is gone, and was always a fraud. If something does not change, and soon, the Mystic Guild will become nothing but a platform for personal power, and not the good work it once was.The format of my reports will be different and less personal henceforth. But as always, mail of any opinion is welcomed.God Bless,Amaziah Tionus

"Eye Balthazar gave his life to deprive Amaziah of the ability to ever again harm someone through psionic means. He would demean Balthazar's heroism, as usual, to try and improve his own credibility, which has been sorely lacking since he faced criminal charges on Concordance Station."Mordecai agreed that the Guild faces a period of rebuilding, but not because of the fraudulent nature of the Voice."Those among us in the Guild have grown to accept the truth behind the Voice," he said. "What we must do now is develop a new guiding purpose, following the principles set forth by Eye Balthazar. We will remain a force for good."

Underneath the thick and impregnable hull of Concordance Station, the collective economic center of the universe, rests something dark, evil, and insidious, insurmountable by even the constabulary. Our listeners and readers may be aware of the recent turmoil surrounding the massive moon-sized starship: the incapacitation of the Director of Concordance Station Internal Security, the controversy of the misallocation of fiscal assets, the destruction of Glimmercoat's at the hands of an inept security cadet, and the hideous corpse found at the same location only two days after. In a proverbial final nail to the coffin, the staff of E!RN Demaria has learned of a crime wave sweeping the bustling and controlled chaos of the Station: Individuals are, without a noticeable pattern, vanishing from public sight, amidst an unreactive and seemingly lethargic security force. Said a teary-eyed Sharron Zemlicka, a middle-class working citizen of the Station, "My husband disappeared Monday. I filed a report with the police, and got the reply 'we're on the case'. That was three days ago."In the flurry of policital scandals surrounding Sivad, should we also call for a vote of no confidence against the ineffective CSIS? Can we sit and wait idly by while the population of the Station diminishes under our nose?"In a closed society where everybody's guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity." - Hunter S. Thompson-<>- Stripetail Newscatcher -<>- E!RN Demaria -<>-"E!RN: Working to restore Power"

GLEAMING STAR, DEMARIA - Darkmuzzle Gutripper, head of security for Clan Stealthfoot, Demarian Militia officer, and veteran of rumored covert campaigns against the tribal savages, today offered the services of himself and his unit of Demarian troops to the beleaguered Concordance Station. "What it sounds like," the scarred middle-aged noble said, "is that nest of corruption and inefficiency needs to be torn out at the root, and a new order imposed. I can promise the safety and security of the station. The citizens deserve at least that much - and to know and -see- that their police force is doing the utmost to maintain that. Now, I can also promise that there will be complaints, but those will come from criminal elements and their sympathizers, who don't care too much for things like rules, duty or responsibility. The situation as it exists now is what happens when you do not have someone trained from birth to do this task. If Mr. Cottington will have us, we will show what skilled -professionals- can do."

The rumors have been dispelled by the announcement of the militia's acceptance of the terms.

CONCORDANCE STATION - Oswald Cottington IV, builder and proprietor of Concordance Station, confirmed today that he is considering a move for the station formerly known as Sanctuary."I am currently looking for individuals skilled in engineering and structural design to help prep the station to handle such a journey," Cottington said.Where might the station be moving? Cottington won't say just yet."For the past two years, the station has remained near Demaria - primarily because our engines have been damaged and the colony vessel has been too structurally weakened to endure a voyage of any great length," he said. "But if we can reinforce the vessel and repair the engines and guidance system, we should be able to travel to just about any of the known worlds."

Violence Escalates In The Quarter Beneath

Posted By: Leonidas Article: MARCH02-132 Reported To: E!RN Reported On: Concordance Reported At: Sun Mar 24 19:25:10 3002

The Quarter Beneath has always been a spot for the less scrupulous denizens of Concordance Station. The legendary section of the colony ship came into existance due to a combination of overcrowding, and the inevitable criminal element that also fled the Kretonians. In the past, the inhabitants of the Quarter have kept to themselves, settling their differences through means fair or foul, almost always with violence. This reporter has braved that dark corner of the former Sanctuary, and I am hear to tell you, things are not well. Recent upheveal in the power structure of the gangs that run the Quarter, coupled with an increased CSIS presence have been causing quite a stir. I ventured less than a mile into the morass that is the Quarter Beneath, and, even then, I feared for my very life. The residents that would speak to me all had ghastly tales. More than a few veterans of battles long in the past, The Sivadian Revolt, the Kretonian Invasion, cast off and adrift by their respective worlds. They mingle with the dregs of society, and the thugs that prey on them. Some tell tale of other, darker things that exist farther into the Quarter. Death is an old friend here, and the local populance has long since surrendered to that inevitable end.Which brings me to my point, readers. Someone has the Quarter riled, gunfights, always common, seem to go on endlessly now. It is not uncommon to find corpses strewn throughout an alley way down here. Whatever else is happening, things are changing down below.-Rick Jacoby, E!RN Correspondant For Concordance Station

(Shadowheart, Tomin Kora)Today a Zangali calling himself 'Tkagorth' comandeered the CIN sports department for two hours to rant about issuing a fight against a fellow Zangali who appears to be called 'Urf'. The Zangali is quoted as saying, "Tkagorth seeded stupid softskin fakefight fakefight stuff Olympics. Tkagorth seeded Urf win stupid shiny round gold thingy. Tkagorth most besterer basherer all time, Tkagorth bash Urf all time. Urf sayed Tkagorth bestest basherer all time. Tkagorth say Urf no can beat Tkagorth. Stupid softskin rock arena place Tkagorth bash lots softskins. Tkagorth want bash Urf. Tkagorth bestest basherer..." et cetra. After getting a translator in to determine what exactly Mr. Tkagorth was saying, we here at CIN have determined that the being is challenging one Urf, to a boxing match at the Tomin Kora Arena. The date is yet to be determined, but one can believe that the two Zangali will be ready to mix it up whenever they do meet in the ring.

Unsgtir Begins to Clean House

It has been a quiet week for Polkovnik Liya Akimov, since she took charge of the fractious Ungstiri Militia. However, it appears that while calm, many things were going on just beneath the surface."Patience, control and discipline." Colonel Liya Akimov spared a few words, before summarizing the conclusion to the recent events. "It is time the rest of the Militia remembered those three words. After the incidents of the last month, I have informed the Citizen's Committee that we will be properly disciplining those involved."Indeed, it seems the Colonel is true to her word. Yesterday evening Lejtenant Mikol Curlensky was placed under arrest and confined to the Militia barracks.More striking is the recent order to ground the militia fleet pending a comprehensive review of the previous command's purchase of the vessels."It seems that Ector Garryowen mis-used his trust of the Ungstiri people and entered a scheme to hide the purchase of certain pieces of hardware by laundering them through the Militia." These words came from Lejtenant Ivan Danilov, of the Ungstiri Militia Command division. "We have documentation proving the irregular procurement, in both method and manner. This was a slap in the face to the Militia's honor, and we will take all necessary actions to correct this. We will not fly stained ships."No comment was made by Generalissimo Ector Garryowen, now missing for over a week.--Dominik Koromov, Ungstir Information Service

A3L Condemns Team Kamfa Recruitment Strategy

Posted By: Lift Article: MARCH02-135 Reported To: SNN Reported On: Sivad Reported At: Sun Mar 24 20:40:11 3002

/ENAJ, SIVAD/ - In a press conference held in A3L headquarters, Commisioner Nathan Downhull criticized the recruitment strategy of Team Kamfa, who is offering the position of driver on their racing team to the winner of a sweepstakes contest. "The fact that Team Kamfa is fielding such an advertising campaign, and plans to follow out with it utterly disgusts me as both a former driver myself, and as the Commissioner of the A3L," stated Downhull. "It is with that thought that Team Kamfa /will not/ continue with their advertising campaign and field inexperienced drivers, or else face the removal of their entry to the league this first season, and lose any deposits they have made." As to further reasons for banning the sweepstakes drivers, Downhull added, "These untrained drivers would be risking their lives while trying to drive, and the lives of the other drivers. These aren't your everyday hovercars driving outside of this building."There have been no comments from any of other teams, but two drivers have responded. Amado Saviola had this to say: "They bring me all the way to G'ahnlo before deciding they're not willing to hire a professional driver at the reasonable going rate, and instead opt for placing amateurs in the cockpit, a move I believe will be dangerous to all. A race track isn't a playground, and Team Kamfa's policy will be a serious menace to the lives of all present on and around the event. A3L racing is a sport, and this kind of irresponsible profiteering jeopardizes the intergrity of the league. You can quote me on that." And Belton Delpargi stated, "I find this policy to be completely irresponsible, and foolhardy, it's a surprise to me that the G'ahnli felt this was a good idea." /Alva Grimaldi, SNN/

In recent news of A3L Condemning their unique recruitment strategy, one of the team's sponsers, Chief Stock Holder Borono, responded promptly: "Our intentions were purely in the name of profit, brml, as the previous thought of wasting a full 300,000 perl a year on two automobile racers sounded very, very unprofitable. Brml. And not even be able to keep an ounce of the winnings! Brml. I am surprised any airbreather could possibly be that false in their sense for profit. As such, I am officially withdrawing my half of the team from such a foolish investment, and demanding a full refund. Brml. It is most disturbing the airbreather company's owners thought it profitable to publicly attack us as well. Brml. I will be sure to study my investment strategies in the future, rather than snap out at such an idiotic method to gain publicity. Brml."

Scientists report dangerous blooms

YORBENSORB, YDAHR - In the swampy fens of Ydahr, danger is coming into full blossom. An Ydahri scientific research team that spends much of the year dwelling in the depths of the marshes that provide sustenance as well as surface transport for the denizens of the swampy planet is reporting that a particularly prolific species of algae is starting to choke waterways and give off noxious - and potentially toxic - gases."Within 30 solar cycles, it is quite likely that we will see a dramatic increase in respiratory ailments among Ydahri," said Orblinoop, lead scientist with the team. "But it will be no more than 14 solar cycles before we see ill effects among G'ahnli marsh dwellers. We recommend that all G'ahnli currently on Ydahr prepare to take refuge within hovertanks until we have dealt with this crisis."The team requires scientific assistance for beating back the algae blooms before they can cause an environmental catastrophe.

Nemoni Complete Mobile Colony

The Nemoni Office of Foreign Affairs issued a brief announcement today proclaiming the successful completion of the NSF Colossus, to date the largest spacefaring vessel ever constructed by the Nemoni people. Capable of holding a population of 500000 Nemoni, it is to become a mobile home for their government and citizenry from Concordance Station.President Klovor offered his thoughts on this achievement. "This is by no means a complete pull-out from Concordance Station, but considering the events that have occurred since our arrival here with the Sanctuary refugees nearly 2 years ago, we feel it will be safer to have our central government in a more secure location.""Since the severe damage to the Malcon and the near theft of the Freedom, it's become apparent that Concordance Station has become a more dangerous place in recent months, especially for a people such as us."When questioned if this was a reflection on CSIS and the recent accusations that they have become lacking in their ability to protect Concordance, the President adamantly denied this was the case. "I have no ill will against CSIS. Most of the incidents that have occurred to us would have been outside their sphere of influence."

Clipped Wings

Clipped WingsPilots Changing how They FlyNow some weeks after the collapse of every Otherspace drive, everywhere, the sudden urgency and panic on Enaj has quieted down. But things will never be the same again."I used to commute to and from Sivad every day," says an anonymous Castori engineer. "The pay was good, and I only spent a few yojj and a half hour or so trip each way. There are homes on Castor that are harder to get to! But now I've been stuck here for weeks, collecting my savings and trying to arrange a flight home. I'll have to quit and get another job on Castor."The failure of the shuttle system has so affected many people all over the galaxy, who traveled often for business or pleasure. So far, there is no word of a replacement shuttle system using jumpsails. And such citizens are not the only ones troubled by this. One Eduuard Tampa, a Sivadian pilot, had this to say. "I had an Otherspace ship for years. I could travel, see the galaxy, and make the odd credit here and there with it. Now it's useless unless I can dig up enough money to convert it!"As with many tragedies, this has boomed business for many as well. Demand for engineers doubled in the first day after Otherspace drives failed, as many pilots hurried to convert their ships to jumpsails before they lost much business."I was lucky, and decided to buy a sail ship instead of one with an Otherspace drive," says Ranex Luntin, a Timonae commercial pilot. "I had a feeling, that even though it couldn't go as many places, that it would prove valuable. And it has! I can cram passengers in anytime I feel like and haul them around! I only charge 500 credits a flight, to and from almost any planet, generally the same week..."But how else to travel? There seems to be few other ways. The Centauran's mysterious chip is priced beyond the range of the common citizen, and teleportals are quite rare. Lieutenant Galactix of the Vanguard is known to have a different drive, but thus far it is unduplicated. Research programs studying an alternative drive dwindled some after the invention of jumpsails, but now the funding and interest has increased wildly. Scientists still hold small hope, however. One anonymous engineer stated, "You can't just make up a drive that will really work. Laws of physics are not easily circumvented, and people have been trying to invent new drives for centuries. The Otherspace drive was brought in by a higher order of life, and the Castori only recently released their drive, which worked with already existing teleportation technology. If we can possibly make a breakthrough, it could be months. Or years. And even then, it will likely not be as useful."Amaziah Tionus, Sivadian News Network

Date set for start of Festival Season

Posted By: Gallahad Article: MARCH02-145 Reported To: INN Reported On: Castor Reported At: Fri Mar 29 21:01:52 3002

URSINIRU, CASTOR - Castori officials have set April 6 as the date for the start of this year's Festival Season and have announced an initiative this year to attract more non-Castori tourists to the capital city during the Season's premier event, Seembei aeh Arike Dasle Hweh, or the Festival of the Continuing Dream. The Festival Season takes place during the first month of meteorlogical winter for the capital city of the planet, Ursiniru, and contains within it the primary religious festivals of the Castori religion. The Festival Season kicks off with the Festival of the Continuing Dream, a five-day long festival during which the Castori government and economy comes to a virtual standstill. Some Castori who hibernate during the Festival even ask to be awakened for the duration of it. The Festival of the Continuing Dream, which is nearly a continuous party from start to end, is the foremost religious festival for the Castori, and is used to celebrate the Great Dreamer and to wish for the continuation of the dream which they believe the universe is part of.Tourism experts say that the Festival of the Continuing Dream could be compared to the ancient Marti Gras celebration on Fat Tuesday, but five times a long. "If the Castori want to attract non-Castori, humanoids in particular, to the planet," said Roger MacMillian, a professor of social economics at the University of Enaj, "Then a five day-long party of unequaled scope is the way to do it." A spokesbear for the Castori tourism board said that "all offworlders wishing to participate in a celebration of the universe will be welcomed as a Castori returning to their home planet would."The Festival will start off with a solemn procession, so that the sudden energy of the party will not jolt the Great Dreamer from his sleep, to honor lives gone by and lives yet to come. Right after a moment of silence, the taverns will open their doors, and the party will begin.
