Rifts, Shoots and Leaves

Summary: When exploring the northern hills of Eiru, Ladek is the unfortunate victim of a confused arrival.

Cast: Seryn, Sadie, Ladek, Dement

Air Date: Sunday 11 March – 2654 AD

Setting: Northern Hills – Eiru

Pink sand, black volcanic stone and rich earth clash in low, sharp hills that separate the sandy dunes to the north and the verdant lowlands to the south. Plant life on the northern face consists mainly of tall grasses and broad ferns that cling where they can in the shifting sands, while the southern side bristles with tall ferns and colorful flowers. Making a direct north-to-south path over the hills is a plascrete path, stamped with images of piorra on the edges, leading from the vineyard to the south to a bunch of homes on a hillside to the north. To the northwest, a series of sand dunes shift against the hills. Game trails fork off periodically, leading to places unknown.

Bushdragon Farm – A small, Fastheldian-owned farm with a fenced-in field left fallow this year. It is currently being used to house nine very sick horses.

Seryn is standing near the fence, cause yes the horses ARE still here even if you can’t see them. And looking over the critters, next to her is a bag and she turns to head in the direction of the ship parked nearby.

Inside the lab of the Teamhair: It is empty (aside from all of the equipment), there is quiet chatter coming from the forward hatch, however, and it leans open to let the natural Eiru air through.

Sadie jogs lightly up the hill, smiling as she sees the horses and Seryn. “Seryn! Hey!” She catches up to Seryn, almost out of breath. “How are you? How are the horses today?” She smiles warmly as she catches her breath.

Seryn pauses on her way to the ship to smile a greeting to Sadie, “Ah they are doin the same as far as I can tell. I was just comin ta see if I could assist with further research to help with their treatment. I am doin alright I think, yerself?”

It’s a warm afternoon and the hills on Eiru are granted a light breeze coming southward from the sea to help keep the high areas cool and pleasant. At Bushdragon Farm there are a number of horses, most of which are noticeably poorly, and outside the farm a large passenger starship has landed on a more flat area of grass.

Leading up the ramp of the starship, passing through the compact airlock compartment, enters one into a makeshift laboratory. Inside there is a whirring as one or two of the lab equipment has been set to run tests and such. Further into the ship, coming from the cockpit, there is quiet but elated chatter coupled with sound effects and ambient noise. One could deduce it to be a holoviewer.

Such a nice afternoon eventually finds Ladek walking along, his curiousity drawn from the combination of horses and a passenger ship, the human walking up to the ship curiously and rapping on metal as if it would get someone’s attention.

Sadie nods and smiles as she walks towards the ship if Seryn continues to walk there. “I’m glad they aren’t doing worse. That would be bad.” She glances over to her favorite horse, a dark grey horse with dapple haunches she named Arabella. She looks back to Seryn, “I’m doing good, thank you!” She lowers her voice to a whisper, “Have y’all had your /dinner/ yet?”

Seryn clears her throat and shakes her head with a smile, “Not as of yet no. I am hopin that it will be soon.” She raises a cuirous eyebrow at Ladek and his knocking as she does indeed moving to the ship, “It is quite real lad, no need ta bang on it ta find that out.”

One of the lab machines finishes processing and a light beep can be heard over the noise coming through from the cockpit.

A blue hologram materialises in front of it and looks at it with a :/ face.

Ladek scratches his hair thoughtfully and looks to the women, “Ah, yes sorry, just not often are ships around what appear to be sick horses in the middle of a farm,” the human looks about uncomfortably and offers a hand, “Ladek Dall,” he introduces himself, “Former Earth military.”

Sadie smiles and nods to Seryn, “I’m sure y’all will have it soon. I can’t wait to hear all about it!” She grins, then looks over at Ladek as Seryn speaks to him and he speaks back. After he introduces himself, she extends a hand to him and speaks in her loud, country voice. “Howdy, Ladek. I’m Sadie. Sadie Harden. I’m from Earth, too. Did ya need something?” She grins.

Seryn waits for Sadie to finish shaking hands and then offers her own, “Aye well Doctor Dement, whose ship that is, is helpin myself and a Doctor Fritz as well as Doctor Sadie here ta help cure these horses and as Dement has a lab on his ship it makes the trip with samples much easier ta manage. I am Seryn Kelly also from Earth.” She retrieves her hand after the shake and smiles to Sadie, “If ye two will excuse me, I need ta speak to the good doctor for a few moments.” and moves to go up the ramp and push the entrance request button to let Dement know she is coming in, before entering.

“Bwuh?” comes a noise over the holoviewer in the cockpit.

As Seryn enters the lab, the spherical hologram turns and buzzes erratically, “SERYN!” It cries, spinning around on it’s north-south axis. “AMAAAAAZIIIINNNG~”

Ladek nods thoughtfully to them before turning to Sadie as the other walks along, “Ah you wouldnt happen to be related to Vessa would you?” the human asks, obviously disturbed by the hologram sounds, but then after whatever Sadie will reply with, A rift opens up and a black furred demarian with cyan highlighted fur and a rifle falls on top of the ship through the rift, then falls to the ground from the top, obviously surviving, but the sound of a bone crunch obvious, as Ladek turns around in surprise and moves towards her.

Sadie grins as she watches Seryn go up the ramp and into the ship. She lets out a soft giggle before turning back to Ladek and nods. “I am, actually. But not the one here.” She sighs softly, “I actually am from a different universe where Vessa is my older sister, but she died in that universe. I am really lucky to..” Her voice is cut off my the rifting in of the Demarian soldier as her eyes widen with curiosity. “S-so, that’s how it goes?”

Seryn looks at the hologram in pleased amusement, “Speeder, how are ye and yer friend today?” She grins in the direction of the “Bwuh?” and then looks back, “Any new information on the tests and should I bother his entertainment viewin’?” She doesn’t hear raining Demarians or other shenanigans that might be going on outside.

“Sleeping-sleepy-doodle. That’s what he is. Lazy, lazy, LAZY.” the orb indicates a frowny face, “I think some more of the test cures have sampled. I don’t know. I’ve been watching Lotorian porn all day.” A sound clip plays, there are a lot of Zs in it.

As the strange Demarian comes to only to notice Ladek and Sadie approaching her, she instinctively growls, recovering as much as she can, and grips her rifle, pointing it to Ladek first as he is armed, and launches a round into his abdomen, knocking the human back as he looks surprised and hits the ground, happening in such quick succession that there isnt much time to react. Ladek now laying on the ground and the Demarian still growling towards Sadie, pointing the rifle at her, but not yet firing, “Where am I?” she manages with a cough.

[Combat System] Ladek inflicts 15 Projectile Damage on his abdomen.

[Combat System] Ladek’s Protective Jacket blocks 0 damage and breaks.

[Combat System] Ladek is now at -1.

Sadie screams as Ladek is shot, then stares wide eyed at the rifle which is now pointed at her, “I-I-I..” Tears stream down her face as she continues to stare at the rifle, “P-please, I promise I’m not armed! Th-this is Eiru, Pyracan..” Her lip begins to quiver as she catches sight of Ladek on the ground from the corner of her eye.

Seryn looks more amused at the renditions of lazy then she laughs delightedly at the Lotorian porn comment, “I see, I think I should take a look at the,” it is about now that she hears a gun shot, “What on Earth?” and moves to peek outside, seeing the situation she puts her hands on her hips and stares at the Demarian, “Ye will put that gun down and ye will stop this nonsense right now.” She points to the bleeding Ladek, “Tha man is bleedin and needs ta be seen to before he bleeds ta death, no one is goin ta harm ye but you will stop waving weapons at bystanders right this second.” And turns the glare that has quelled a thousand undergrads upon the rifle wielding kitty.

[Skill System] Seryn tests her Persuasion + Intimidation at a modifier of 0. The result is -4.

[Skill System] Ladek tests his Endurance + Ignore Pain at a modifier of -1. The result is 8.

Gunshot. Scream. Dement had fallen asleep in the pilots chair of the Teamhair, laying in a jaunty angle and snoring quietly, but those are the kind of outside input that shake the engineer out of a restful place. He jolts up, falling backwards into the flight console and looking around, first at the outside video feeds and then back towards the outside hatch. “What the &$@%?!”

In a flash, the blue hologram de and rematerialize from his position inside the Teamhair to hover outside, in front of Saide and Ladek.

The orb turns red and a warning symbol is presented towards the Demarian. “You will drop your weapons or you will be pacified by this units on board weapon systems. Step away from your weapon and remain calm or you will be pacified by this units on board weapon systems.

The Demarian notices authority when she hears it, and doesn’t care for being neutralized by a ship with weapons, so she growls slightly and places the weapon beside her, but she hardly relaxes, “Someone better tell me which of our blasted enemies did this to me,” she says. Ladek however, doesn’t speak much, as the wound grows, blood pooling on the clothing around it and his skin, the human groaning as he manages to use his military training to resist passing out, he checks the wound, knowing immediate attention is requires, and reaches to put what little pressure he can on it, “Who…?” is all he manages to ask.

Sadie looks gratefully at Seryn and Speeder with a long sigh. “Enemies?” She looks back at the Demarian. “Wh-what do you mean?” She immediately remembers Ladek and falls to her knees at his side. “He needs to get to the hospital!” She looks to Seryn.

Seryn gives a sharp nod and raises a comm placing an emergency call for an ambulance, “They will be here shortly.” To the Demarian she says, “Lass, ye got rifted. This woman here, myself, an the man ye shot were all also rifted. Get over it an don’ go shootin people for yer troubles.”

Dement grabs a case from the lab as he stumbles out of the forward hatch and jogs down the ramp, peeking out to make sure the Demarian isn’t shooting anyone else before he slips off the side and lands down at Ladek’s side. “Hello.” he manages, opening the case and revealing a medical kit, “Speak for me please.” His yellow eyes fall on Ladek and his features are struggling to retain their calm.

The red orb does not move, hologram pulsing lightly as it’s warning symbol is aimed at the Demarian in as much a threatening manner as possible.

Sadie gets up as Dement is at Ladek’s side. She brushes off her legs and looks to the Demarian, nodding. “Getting rifted isn’t anyone’s fault…not that I’ve heard of.” She manages a smile, though her heartbeat is still off the charts, “Are you hurt?”

The Demarian calms down a bit looking around, obviously not sure what to make of it all, and for now simply nods, noticing the man she shot had no bad intent nor any of the others she sighs. Ladek groans as it seems being here has prompted them to attempt to arrive quickly perhaps, but while he waits for medical he turns to Dement, “Get to work,” he manages, a bit of blood coming from his mouth as he coughs the words. The Demarian looks to Sadie confusedly, “Only my arm, but it will heal,” she manages, still confused.

Seryn seems satisfied that things have sufficiently calmed down, “Ye will get yer arm seen to as well lass. Ye don’ want it healin funny then not be usable aye?”

“Okay, lean back and your head to one side. Focus on your breathing…” Dement replies to Ladek, pulling out a pack of medigel and a number of sterile bandages. He glances back, placing the items down so his hands can gently check over the damage done. “..no exit wound, clean point of entry..” one hand rises to check Ladek’s pulse, “Keep pressure on the wound, you’re doing fine… w… Will someone pick up the /fucking gun/. Scheisse.”

Sadie nods to Seryn’s words, still looking at the Demarian. She looks to Dement, “I-I’m afraid I will make it shoot.” She frowns, then looks back at the Demarian, “What is your name? I’m Sadie.”

“Iceclaw,” the Demarian replies, nodding to Seryn, but still cautious of any movements to her gun. Ladek does what Dement says, and helps with the attention to his wound, more stable now as it doesnt seem to have hit anything major, however the biggest problem being contamination from the bullet, and bleeding out from the wound, blinking a bit, he says, “If anything happens,” coughing more before he can say much else, but straining as the blood pools more despite attention, being as it hasnt been attended, just as medical seems to arrive, and of course who else comes when gunshots are heard, it is likely the police arrive to deal with the situation with the Demarian as well.

Seryn moved to take the gun but Ladek seems to have taken care of that. She frowns and stands ready to assist if need be but otherwise keeps out of the way as medical and police and what not do their thing.

[Combat System] Dement attempts to treat Ladek’s wound. The wound will heal 5 more damage.

Dement applies the medigel and, removing Ladek’s hand, he pulls away the torn jacket and places a medical pad on the wound. The medigel seals itself across quickly and Dement pulls out an insulated blanket from the lid of the first aid case. “Here.” he offers Ladek, “This wind is chilly, da? This will help prevent shock.”

Once the gun has been moved away from the Demarian, the AI orb turns from red to blue, hovering out of the way and watching in silence.

Sadie backs away near Seryn as the medical and police deal with Iceclaw and Ladek. Sighing, she looks over to Seryn, “Well, this was an eventful day..” She shakes her head.

Iceclaw is checked for wounds, and with only minor fractures obvious, she is taken in for questioning perhaps for the time being. Ladek looks to Dement and nods, using the insulation, and being promptly tended to by the medical team as well. It is likely after this they place him in proper transportation, and move him to the hospital.

Seryn looks at the horses, “I think we should see ta them as the gunfire an the added people an activity is probably addin’ unneeded stress.” Is said to Sadie then a small chuckle, “It always seems ta be an eventful day, even when it isna hmm?” she moves over to Dement and tries to help him clean up the items used in helping Ladek, “Good healin to ye lad.” is said to the injured one and a, “Welcome ta Hiverspace lass.” to the Demarian. To Dement she says softly, “Are ye alright?”

Dement stays resistant and quiet, packing up his things and taking them back on board as the paramedic team arrives and carts Ladek off as quickly as they can. When Seryn approaches him, he grumbles something incoherent and deflective, escaping up the ramp.

And when the Demarian is gone, that blue sphere floats over to Sadie and Seryn and displays a >: face on it’s surface. “Want to know a secret?” he asks.

Sadie smiles and nods to Seryn, “I’ll go check on them now.” She starts to walk towards the horses before stopping as Speeder speaks. She turns around and nods, “I would love to know one!” She grins.

Seryn watches Dement escape in concern and nods to Speeder. “Aye, what secret would that be?”

“I don’t have any weapons.” Speeder admits. He displays a LOL on screen before dematerialising.

Dement busies himself on board the Teamhair.

Sadie giggles softly at Speeder before nodding and slowly walking off towards the horses, taking out her items to check the horses with. When she finishes checking on the stress levels of the horses, she stays by Arabella, combing her mane and tail out.

Seryn chuckles softly at Speeder, “A good bluff then lad.” she watches Sadie for a moment then nods as the horses seem well in hand and moves to the inside of the ship to see what the results of the tests that have finished running might be. Her eyes go towards where she assumes Dement wandered off to now and then in concern.
