Xenomorph: Part 2

Summary: The Apollo's Captain has been abducted. Again. This log concludes the Xenomorph event as the crew face up to the creature they have discovered.

Cast: DS-3633, Hal'gus, Marina, Sam Gideon, Tharsis

Air Date: 27th August, 2651 CE

Setting: The Olympus Trade Vessel

The Apollo's Captain has been abducted. Again. The crew of the Apollo, accompanied by Tharsis were exploring the third star system in their run when they ran across an abandoned hulk. Entering their exploration had barely begun when the team was ambushed by an alien not reading on Tharsis' sensors. The only casualty: Sam Gideon. Tharsis is off scouting, tracking Sam's life signs, leaving Vadim and Marina following in the zero-g environment as quickly as they can. The rest of the crew is still sleeping on the Apollo, located in the larger ship's landing bay.

"Goddamnit...o'all the hoopin things!" Vadim mutters, pausing in his trek up the ship's empty turbolift. "Hold up...we ain't gonna cover much ground between the three o'us." He glances down the ladder at Marina and Tharsis. Keying at his wrist-mounted panel, he contacts the Apollo. "'Ey! There somebody awake yet back there? We gotta a situation in 'ere." He pauses a look up the shaft again, flashlight beam illuminating cylindrical tube.

Tharsis adjusts his scanners. "I'm still picking up the Captain's life sign.. but it's faint. He's been dragged deeper into the bowels of this damn ship but who knows where," he says with a bit of a snarl. "There's got to be some way to detect that damn thing, whatever it is."

Marina, who was peering up the ladder after Vadim when last we saw her, is still suffering from the effects of the scream. Her movement up the ladder is slow at best. "Not so loud," she winces as Vadim calls. "Do we follow him or do we wait for anyone else? I'm not sure splitting up is the bloody best idea, but...at the same time, this place is so massive we might not have a choice."

DS-3633 responds to the call from the comms. "This is DS-3633. I am currently moving to your location." It leaves the airlock and begins heading towards the rest of the crew.

Hal'gus rolls out from under his bunk groggily, rising to his feet as he peers around at all the commotion. He's dressed in what appears to be a full-body, supple, black leather jumpsuit, with the material below the knee being somewhat bulkier and stronger than the rest. He shakes his head quickly, making to get at his equipment and begin to suit up in his coat and gear.

"Dis. Atlichna, the bay doors to the lower corridor should still be open. We're at the end in the turbolift tube. Sam has dun up an been snatched by somethin that we can't pick up." Vadim replies, visibly shaking his head at Marina. "Nyet, we're goin after Sam. Ain't gonna let whatever that thing was do whatever is gunin on doin. Tharsis, when Dis meets up with us, I want you and him to keep on to Engineerin. Try to get that damn reactor runnin if you can, maybe the ship's internal sensors might help. Me an Marina will find the Kap, but try to keep tabs on Sam if you can."

"Do you want me to return there from this scouting gig?" Tharsis sends. "Still trying to track him down, I didn't put on this crab suit for nothing you know."

Marina shrugs. "You're the boss, but Tharsis is faster." She keeps climbing, eyes half closed.

As it reaches the rest of the crew, DS says, "Please excuse the delay. I am not well suited for this environment. How may I be of assistance? Have communication attempts been made with these aliens?"

Leaving his hat behind, Hal'gus finishes dressing as he throws his rifle over his shoulder. He raises his goggles over his forehead, scratching at his beard as he wanders over to the ship intercom. He gives a bit of a stare at the height of it, taking his rifle by the barrel and using the stock to hit the button. "Hal'gus porteratin', what'n the chasm's ho-hockin's goin' up?"

Cut scene: The Captain is struggling with the effects of the gunk as more and more of the eggs around him begin to hatch. The first shell is now empty. A large whipping tail can be seen above Sam's head. His short range comm is crackly, but can be faintly heard. "Let's go exploring again. It'll be fun. We'll all make a lot of money..." The Captain's tone is definitely sarcastic, but sadly lost on the rest of the party as the transmitting signal is blocked by the number of decks between Sam and the Apollo's explorers.

The scene cuts back to the explorers regrouping near the spot Sam was originally taken. In the distance the airlock cycles open to reveal the halaghi.

"Alright, fine. Tharsis, stay with us. We really dun got time to argue who goes where. Take point then, you're the one with sensors. An nyet offense, these things prolly can't hurt'ya." Vadim replies, now continuing to climb the shaft himself. "Hoop it, we'll take care of reactor after we've found Sam. Dis, start heading up. An nyet, I dun think they're the kind that talk to their meals before eatin it." Almost pausing at the next comm, he almost chuckles. "Hal...put on a suit an get in 'ere if you can. Kap's been shanghighed by somethin nasty."

"Allrighty then, I'll hold position here until you catch up, then I'll stay ahead several meters to draw fire.. or claws.. or teeth.. or whatever the hell this thing has." Tharsis says. "You're right, the worst it can do is destroy my emitter, but I have spares."

Marina can't quite suppress a grin at the static-y transmission. "Well, that's something. Tharsis, while you're hanging about, can you make a decision as to what direction we should /go/ when we get there?"

DS-3633 does indeed head up at the turboshaft. As it continues along, it speaks through the comms. "Did it appear to be intelligent? Was it using tools or wearing clothing?"

Hal'gus's brows twitch a bit at the response, hitting the comm once more. "Biggerun Burok's personicative snuggin' habitry ain't nothin' this Hally need t'be gogglin' at. Perversineerin' goatbuggin' Biggerun Pardsniffers..." retorts Hal'gus, though none-the-less he reports off to the airlock to head for his assigned equipment and start to suit up."

"Nyet hoopin clue." Vadim manages a momentary glance down the shaft, seeing that DS has found the group. "I'm assumin it was the thing that let out this goddamn screech an nearly defeaned us all. Saw what might've been a tail snatch Sam and head up this shaft." he explains quickly, looking upward. "How many levels does this ship have? Tharsis, that signal. Sounded like the Kap. What direction was it in?" Hal's dialect makes the Ungstiri blink. "I think I'll take that as a 'da'. Careful, yer gonna float a little bit outside. Ain't nyet gravity or air. Just head through the open hatch in the bay an down the corridor. Should be an open hatch to empty shaft. We're headin up."

"Too weak to pin it down... but I still have a fix on his lifesigns. It's kinda general... keeps fading in and out." Tharsis says.

"Try not to jerk about, either," Marina offers her own bit of advice. "We're nearly to the top, are we, Vadim? Can Tharsis keep going?"

DS-3633 grows silent as it approaches the others. "Do you possess weapons?"

Fully suited, Hal'gus heads outside in his new duds. As he shuffles outside, he takes the opportunity to look down and notice a severe lack of floor where it quite usually tends to be. Assuming an impending drop, he balls up to await the inevitable crash...that doesn't happen. An single icy blue eye opens to the reality of his situation, blinking in confusion. "Wha?" he sounds through the comms, "I'm...I'm freefloatin'! Dirigiblin' without th' dirigible!" He seems momentarily entranced, but none-the-less conveniently floats off toward the rally point.

Cutscene: A close up of the hologram of Tharsis. And the camera pans on Vadim, the ungstiri's determined expression gives way to his probing light shining into the darkness as it swings round, briefly illuminating each part of the corridor. The combat medic follows the Ungstiri and the Phyrrian and the halaghi follow. The original ladder has long been left behind as the team search down the corridor. The crew are climbing up another ladder. Another quick pan as they continue down another corridor. Wherever the captain is Tharsis has been slowly getting closer and closer to the signal. One last change of shot as the Apollo's crew finishing climbing another ladder, several decks have been bypassed. The signal on the Captain is clearing up though radio contact still hasn't been reached. Tharsis will be waiting at the designated spot as the last of the crew the Halaghi makes his way up the last ladder. The corridor is long and dark, but sensors show it meets a main corridor further down.

"Da, keep goin. The moment you get a lock on the Kap, you let us know. Just make your best guess where to head to an we'll follow. Everyone else, start lookin for anythin that might stick out of place once we get into the upper corridor. If it's some creepy nasty that grabbed Sam, odds are they might stick out of place on an empty ass boat." There's an absent nod registered for DS's questions. “Me an’ the doc are packin. Hal prolly is too whenever he catches up. Damn, so much for an easy salvage op…" Upon reaching the final corridor, Vadim makes a check on his pistol's readout.

Tharsis gets moving on, his sensors focused on Sam's faint, but at least there, life signs. "We're getting close, people. He's still kicking, thank goodness, but we'd better get down there fast because I don't think that thing grabbed him just to have a tea party."

Marina nods and falls back one position. There's no need to add to the radio chatter, so she focuses on unholstering her pistol and patting her medibag.

DS-3633 follows along, keeping its 'eyes' active, watching for anything out of the ordinary.

Seemingly satisfied with barrel-rolling and flipping about for now, Hal'gus makes his way off toward the rest of the team as quickly as an unaccustomed steam dwarf can, heading in to the ship and moving toward the rest. "Gus inside twinklyboat. Boomstick: Kerblam-readificated."

Vadim visiably cringes at the newest scream. "Da...just like that. That's how it got the damn drop on us. How it's able to tap into our comm systems I dun got a damn clue. Dis, think you can analyze that scream? Get a point o'origin? Know Tharsis is concentratin on the Kap's bio-signature. Gus, privet. Glad you could join the party. Watch our asses, dun need it gettin the drop on us again. An if it ain't the Kap an it's movin at us, feel free to shoot it."

"No idea, but I'm ajusting the notch filter on my receptor circuit to tune that damn thing out." Tharsis says. "It's murder on my neural net!" he says as he continues along. "We're getting closer... maybe I'd better go on ahead and draw fire... maybe if I can distract it, you guys will have a chance to move in."

"Can we risk running silent, then?" Marina also winces at the sound. "If it screams and knocks us all on our heels, we'll be a fair lot of useless."

DS-3633 nods its head once. "I am analyzing the scream acoustics for signs of language, possible size and shape of the creature and point of origin. I will alert you when analysis is complete."

Cold, dark, cramped. Hal'gus feels right at home as he makes his way to finally meet up with the group. A wave of his rifle is given as he nears, giving a nod as he trails the group to keep an eye behind them, still rather unsteady in the environment.

There's a flicker in Tharsis' holomatrix as a dark shadow reaches out to grab him. Again. Again. Each time the matrix reintegrates as shadow misses the emitter...

Vadim doesn't even bother to wait. "There!" he barks, taking in the flicker in Tharsis's form as a bad sign. Swinging his mounted lamp to side of the hologram, he takes a bead on the shadowy/thing/creature and pulls the trigger, a burst of energy fire making zero sound in the emptiness of vacuum.

Marina takes the opportunity to keep moving down the corridor, shielding her lamp.

DS-3633 turns towards the creature. It calls out, "We are not your enemy. If you refrain from violence and return our Captain, we can attempt to assist you in acquiring what you require."

"What're we kerblamifyin'?" asks the Halaghi, though he doesn't particularly wait for an answer. The rifle is brought to bear, aimed in roughly the same direction Vadim is shooting and the muzzle flashes as a few rounds are squeezed off. The recoil of the weapon sends Gus flying backward in a perpetual backflip, fortunately landing against a wall as he attempts to assess what damage he inflicted on anything or anyone.

Vadim's shots graze whatever is attacking Tharsis. As the attack on the hologram is failing the darkness, slows, then leaps for the Ungstiri first mate.

"C'mon, ya goddamn mudruck, let's do this." Vadim growls, tensing up his legs and ready to jump out of the way the moment to he fires. The moment is just shy of one breathe, waiting to come into closer range. With a steady aim, he pulls off another volley of fire, the business end of his pistol making the immediate area glow red momentarily.

Tharsis skitters out of the way of the monster. "I still can't detect that damn thing. What the hell is it made of!?"

Marina flattens against what she hopes is the far wall. "Just don't bloody well shoot /me/ too," she mutters and inches forward. "Captain?" She cycles her comm unit through the channels, hoping for an answer.

DS-3633 says, "Peaceful negotiations perform with a much higher success rate when weapons are not being discharged. Calculated success rate at 2.45%. Analyizing alternatives."

"Lookie 'ere, y' goatbuggin' cicle-licker!" declares Hal'gus, absolutely oblivious to the inherent idiocy, perhaps, of his further actions. The small man leaps off of the wall to intercept Vadim's attacker from its flank to smash the unidentified xenomorph with the butt of his assault rifle.

The xenomorph is closing the distance to the Ungstiri. The claws are out when there's a *CRUNCH* as the creatures jaws are splattered around the Halaghi's rifle butt. Just in time. The now unconscious creature is carried forth by momentum into Vadim, but no damage is done.

"HOLY FUCK!" Vadim exclaims, either too surprised by all of his shots missing, or the fact that Hal came flying out of nowhere to stock whip the creature. Taking a step back, he pushes the mass past him. "I ain't givin it another chance to pull sem hoop like that again. Spaciba, Gus." he says, taking aim again putting trio of bolts at it. "We need to get movin, Tharsis, Doc, what you guys got up there?"

"His lifesign signal is getting stronger... I'd say we're getting close... from just a glimpse I don't think that was the same one... I sure hope there's not a nest of them somewhere." Tharsis says.

Marina cycles her comm and tries again. "Captain?" click, and a tentative "Sam...?" She frowns and risks a quick glance over her shoulder. "Get your guns the hell back up here, you guys. Tharsis...it looks like we can go port or starboard...and I'm not sticking my head around any corners all exposed, wot?"

DS-3633 begins to analyze the fallen creature. "It is possible that you could disguise your scent by covering yourself with the blood of this creature. Many animals choose prey based on smell." It begins to look for any pertinent information that it can glean with its biology knowledge.

[Skill System] DS-3633 rolls its Biology with a modifier of 0. The result is Legendary (8).

Success! Hal'gus smiles brightly at the success, giving a nod. "Haha! That'll put some goostuff in his thinkifier!" he victoriously declares, though he looks somewhat disappointed as he attempts to shake some debris off the end of his rifle to no avail, giving a nod to DS. "Ain't havin' m' natcher, s'good thinkineerin'."

"Da, let's getta move-on, people. Could be more o'em up ahead, so keep yer wits bout'ya." Rapidly moving up to the front of the group where Marina stands, he looks back to Tharsis. "Where to? Any suggestions?"

Tharsis walks into the center of the junction, and slowly turns in a few complete circles, ending up facing the right side corridor from the junction. "This way. The signal's strongest in this direction." he says, and he starts off towards a set of doors further on down the corridor.

The doctor follows Tharsis, pivoting her head as they move.

As they approach the doors there's smaller scream sounds. And a crackle over the radio. "Get... off." The voice sounds tired almost on the point of exhaustion, but it's the Cap.

"Dis." Vadim calls toward the Phyrrian before he's out of sight and before turning away for the doors. "If you could head down to engineerin an seein if you can get the reactor runnin again before you head back to the Apollo. Call for us, if you run into trouble." That done he follows the others, pausing only at the screen ust slightly.

“Hey.. that's the cap!" Tharsis says, getting up to the doors. "Based on these readings, I think he's beyond these doors... still not detecting those aliens, but based on the fact that their hides have a high metallic content, they may be either absorbing or diffusing the sensor signals."

"Well...so do we burst in guns drawn or try to be subtle?" Marina runs a gloved hand down the doorway. "Captain? Can you hear us?" She glances to the reset of the party. "Since he's the only one who knows what's behind these doors."

Hal'gus sneaks toward the doorway to veeeeeryyyyy carefully see if he can find a way to open the way and get a good look of whatever is going on inside.

"Doc..." There's a vicious SCREAM blocking out the rest of the signal. The door is closed, but looks as though it could possibly be pushed open. There's a button next to it, but no lights are flashing.

"Damnit, he's right behind the door!" Vadim practically throws himself into the hatch, hands trying to get a grip to pull, push, whathaveyou to get inside. "Everyone, when this door opens, my best advice is to turn your comm speakers off. Dun need to be goin deaf when they're right on top o'us. Then? Shoot anything that isn't the Kap, da? We'll ask the questions later. Gus, you wanna give me 'and with this?"

Tharsis gets in position. "Once you get those open I'll go in first... less risk that way." he says.

There's a soft click as Marina turns her unit off, nodding affirmative and drawing her pistol. She looks to be aiming low, crouched down.

Gus's first instinct, of course, is to hone in on that button. Sweet, tempting, bold button. With the ability of flight now granted to him, he goes to push the button. If nothing happens, aside from his dreams being crushed, the wrongstopper with sigh and land to take up the door and give it a good lifting.

It takes some shoving. And slowly slowly lift the door up. As it reaches above the halaghi's height momentum keeps him moving up with it, but his own push is enough to help Vadim the rest of the way. As the two stand side by side a tail flicks from above and between them, aimed at the holographic matrix.

[Skill System] Tharsis rolls his Dodging with a modifier of -2. The result is Terrible-2 (-1).

"Ok... let's do this... what the-" is all Tharsis gets out as the tail whips out from above the door, slamming into his mobile emitter. The force of the impact is immediately evident: a shower of sparks, a sputter, and it suddenly cracks and explodes in the zero G, sending chunks of electronic bits all over the corridor. Tharsis' avatar flickers violently, and then vanishes completely just before the emitter is blwown to hell.

Good thing Vadim was against the bulkhead when the hatch finally gets physically shoved open. It would almost seem like it was automatic reaction for whoever comes through to get a tail going at them, but considering it's Tharsis, well...it's not like his real body is in any danger. But it still sucks. Lifting his pistol up, he fires at the body attatched to said tail.

Marina peers under the door, letting the gents blast at the hologram-nabbing tail. She grimaces as she spots a gooey hulk and the little beasties skittering across it. She paws at her medical bag and starts dumping stuff on the floor. Gauze, liquid sutures, fancy but uselessly-square scanner, trauma shears, a small bottle of pain pills...!

Marina tosses the bottle out, making the pills clank about inside like a jingling ball. The angle passes by, but away from, the slime-shrouded Solan. She also risks a glance up and, if the alien is busy, she prepares to sprint across the floor.

If someone needed a distraction, they need look no further than the venerable Hal'gus. The door opened, the Halaghi finds himself a solid piece of wall to spring himself off and rocket into the room where Sam is being held, moving away from Vadim's fire to bring up his rifle and look around for other potential enemies.

The creature screams to no effect. It's killer-attack eliminated by Vadim's idea of cutting off the comms. Vadim's energy sears into the beast, one on the chest, the other in an eye and the third in the shoulder. The creature is larger and tougher than the last beast and even despite Vadim's heroic shooting the half-blinded enraged creature drops onto the ungstiri.

Marina's distraction catches the attention of the four much smaller creatures lurking around the man-sized gunk sitting on the makeshift nest. The halaghi sails across the room towards that pile of gunk that might, just might be Sam.

While the sound of his voice can't be heard but to anyone but himself, if anyone cared to look long enough at Vadim’s face might get a good idea of the explitives he's currently using. The oily-looking black-skinned lizard thing drops onto him bodily, but putting a large work suit boot to its chest, he's able to push it off. In the absence of gravity, he lets it drift away from him for a split second before leveling his pistol at it and firing again, murderous intent clearly on his face.

Marina sets purposefully out after the flying Super Gus, having plucked the shears and the scanner from where they were floating after her hasty discard. She keeps an eye on the baby slimies, but is intent on reaching the Captain.

Hal'gus is less-than-graceful, stumbling a bit as he lands and taking to a kneel as he notices the smaller creatures surrounding the hulk. The rifle is brought up again, muzzle flashing as he fires off a few rounds as the newly revealed foes, his expression hidden behind his beard.

As the xenomorph smacks into the ground it looks ready to pounce once more, it's agility similar to a cat. It's muscles tense as the creature gets ready to. The first of Vadim's blasts fire into its head and the creature falls to the floor as two more peter past where it's head used to be.

Of the four hatchlings, Hal'gus's fire quickly takes out two, the third dodges and gets ready to pounce on the halaghi and its last surviving sibling likewise has its attention grabbed by the death of it's hatchmates. But its reaction is to approach one of his dead brothers.

Vadim might be a bit more paranoid with this larger one, putting one more energy bolt through its head before concentrating on the last two hatchlings. A glance is given to Sam to try and guess if he's even still alive, but he'll let Marina deal with that. A bead is taken and the trigger is pulled. Three bolts again. If the Ugnstiri is going for the overkill it's...well, not hard to guess. Or maybe he didn't feel like switching the Mk6 to a single firing pattern.

Marina does indeed deal with the mystery, flicking on the scanner and guessing about the head. "I wish Tharsis could hear," she mutters to herself, "because I don't know if I can touch this goo or not..." She checks the scanner again for life signs, and to see if the suit underneath has been compromised.

The hatchling approaching it's sibling doesn't get the chance to ponder death much before it's granted the benefit of having the experience all by itself. Three energy blast thunder into it and the baby is splattered beyond recognition.

Marina runs her scanner over Sam during the battle. There's a disturbing lack of oxygen, but it isn't yet fatal.

The hatchling leaping towards the halaghi meets a similiar fate to it's mother as the butt of Hal'gus's rifle smacks it across the head sending it sailing across the room with a curiously floppy look to it.

Vadim taps a hand against the side of his helmet, where his ear would be as a signal to turn their comms back on. "Hal, you an I sweep this room. Dun wanna get another surprise while the Doc is lookin over the Kap." Speaking of Sam, while his light sweeps the room, he glances back. "How is he? He gonna be alriht?"

Marina doesn't see the handtap, because she's busy swearing at the scanner. She slaps it against her suit and grabs the shears, ready to risk them with the goo covering Sam.

Gus exhales deeply as he takes falls to a seat on the deck, resting against his rifle for support before he takes a few more breaths and rises to further look about the room.

Hearing no response, Vadim slowy makes way along the walls until he reaches the mass of gooey stuff plastered on the walls where Sam has been trapped. Looking at Marina, he makes the same gesture again before repeating the questions. "He gonna be alright doc?"

Marina clicks her helmet and prepares the scissors again. "No, he's not. We need to move him to the medical bay...there's interference here and I'm not entirely sure I can get the goo off in here."

Vadim nods and gestures to Hal. Between the three of them, they wrestle Sam back to the Apollo and onto a bunk in the sick bay.
